We've had three gigs now with the new band, playing in a neighboring county, in brand-new venues that don't have "regulars" yet, and that don't pay well.

We are totally stoked to have a show in a venue near home, where I've played a *bunch*, and can get all my friends and fans from my old bands, as well as our guitarist's friends, and everyone from our local ice house will come up the road for this, too. And its nice pay, too!!!

We now have four original songs in the set, which we're very pleased with. Two are songs the guitarist had already recorded, but that we've put new arrangements to, and two are brand-spankin' new. OMG, I LOVE them!!! It took the old band months to get new songs in the set, but in this new group, we have four after being a band for a *month*!!!

I have two songs on which I am singing lead vocals. Just. Like. That. LOL!

My old band sent me to Jesus, and, my goodness, I am in HEAVEN!!! :hyper:

It really is a breath of fresh air! Rehearsals are productive, gigs are fun, everyone pulls their weight and everyone has input into the band and what it does. Its a beautiful thing, man. :cool:

Oh, they love that song in the bars! I had this busty metal chick with long black hear just headbanging like a maniac to that song. I wouldn't say that I play it *exactly* like Roger Glover, but I do my best. Since we don't have a keyboardist, I try to put a lot of the keyboard fills in, especially during the lead. Oh honey, that tune goes over like ice-cold beer on a 102F day!

Take a stab at it...its not really all that difficult, and its a world of fun to play with the band!

Thanks sugar!!! It is good to be working with a group that I can be truly excited about. I am just itching to play those originals for the local crowd. I know they'll go over well!!! Just about everyone out here is coming to our show on Friday. The place will be *packed*, and that joint prolly holds about 150 folks. :hyper:

Spoke with my old harmonica player yesterday. He says he's actually glad they fired me, because he is delighted that I came out on the best end of that whole deal. He's thinking of letting us steal him from time to time. LOL!

Actually, this show I'm so stoked about this Friday is at Remington's! :hyper:

Played there a jillion times. Its largish. Friday nights are better than Saturdays. You'll need to flyer for it all around Lago and Jonestown. *Don't* put any flyers at DeliWerks...the owner will have a stroke. You can flyer at the dollar store, and at all the other stores around there.

If I'm not booked on those dates, I'll not only come out, I'll bring people with me!

me and the guitarist would love to play it but......we're a soul band and we're not sure if it would go down well with our audience.actually i know it would but convincing the brass section and singer is the problem.how long is your set?

It does bring a sweetly nostalgic amount of rock, don't it :) I was born in 76, so that list contains a whole bunch of the music I grew up listening to. Thankfully I had really cool parents - I got my first turntable at 6 yrs old & inherited a stack of vinyl taller than I was!

Nice to have something like Suzie Q to offset Cocaine though!

Hey I actually live in Lago Vista and will come see you guys friday night. I play with a band called Linton/Mancilla and we are playing The Pier on Saturday night. Nice to play down on the water. Read the thread on people asking to sit in...so I got to ask...can I? :smug: ahahahahahah!!!

I love your set list. My band plays covers of old rock songs as well. You have some good ones on there, but y'know the one that really jumps out at me as being the most fun to play? Funk 49. Such a classic, bass-driven song. If the crowd doesn't start moving when you play that one, you're probably playing at Forest Hill... ;)

Actually, a brass section on the tune would be way more than a little cool!!! I can totally hear it in my mind's ear. :)

Most gigs, we play three sets of 45 minutes each. I try to give us a couple of extra songs per set, so that we have some wiggle room. If we need more tunes, we've got 'em. If not, we can cut the ones we enjoy the least. Mainly only the downtown gigs are short. Most, around here, the band has the whole night. :)

And THAT is the exact reason you should play it! That would be awesome as a horn tune. I play in a soul/party band in NJ, I think we may beat you to it! Holy Diver has already been worked into Let's Stay together, and Unchained into Proud Mary, some Ozzy and Priest into Sexxy Back (hey, it makes it bearable!) , some Maiden into Heaven, The Ocean and All Blues into Shout... Nothing like old metalheads playing soul!

Yep...its the soundtrack of my childhood and early teen years, too. LOL! I'm actually trying to bring in some newer hard rock...STP and The Toadies and the like...some 80's metal, too. I like the songs, but some of them are a bit *too* old-n-dusty for me. (Like Suzie Q...one of my least-favorite tunes...LOL!)

This list of covers will please the local crowds very much, I think. If we can bring in some newer stuff for the 20- and 30-somethings, it will be very well-rounded. We are also working hard on originals. The goal is to have the set list be at least 50% originals by the winter. We pick up a new one at every practice, so we're well on the way! :hyper:

I wanna bring in some Robin Trower to the set, as well. That's the band that corrupted me and turned me from a sweet little girl child who dug Elton John, to a young teenaged hard rock fan. "Bridge of Sighs" was the tune that did it. So...some Trower is definitely in order!!!
