Finally, another build thread...

Here you go, the first pics of the finished bass. A few caveats first: crap photographer, crap-ish camera, room lit with florescents, and there are a few spots I'm going to go back and touch up. I'm calling it "finished" now because I didn't want to continue nit-picking.

I'll see what I can do about putting up some audio clips later today...

:eek:WOW!!!!!! Just WOW!!!! Great job!!!! That thing looks killer!!!!! :bassist::bassist:

What's the weight like? How does it feel and play?

Thanks :).

I'll have to find an accurate scale, but it feels in the 9 lbs region...definitely no heavier than my Warwick thumb b.o. 5 was. It's got an excellent balance: no neck dive, but not body-heavy either. The sound is pretty darn sick: whenever I can afford it, I'm going to keep going with Nordstrand dual coils in this wiring: vols/tones and independent 3-way switches that will run parallel, single coil, series. Each setting gives a distinctly different sound, from smooth to grinding. The pots are all 500k and the tones have .1 microfarad caps on them, so the highs are really stinkin' clear. Still, it's dang quiet even in the various single coil modes. The only drawback is that I found out that when you have humbuckers wired this way (independent 3-way switches to independent Vol/Tones, you have to wire the hots to a different lug so that the vol knobs don't have an impact on each other. I haven't had time to go back and resolder, so basically whenever I turn the volume down on one pup all the way, it grounds all the signal and I get no sound. I'm no pro on wiring, and was fortunate enough that there was a thread on this very issue a few months ago in the electronics forum...of course, I missed it until a few days ago .

I will have to go back at some point and make some miniscule adjustments to the frets above the 12th under the A string. There's this tiny bit of buzz that can only be attributed in my mind to the level of the frets. Not a big deal (no crazy filing needed), just a very fine diamond crowning file most likely, followed by polish.

Very well done!! I simply love the colour contrasts, great job. I also think it is incredible that I not only learn every time I will build a new bass, but I can actually learn from the experience of others on their builds too! Can't wait to hear sound clips. Cheers.

P.S. I would stick with the antimatter build inspiration, you do it well. So are you going to build a piccallo with your maple burl? I think that would be cool ... or an 8 string!

This is amazing and inspiring to me. I want to get into building soon, but i got married this summer and have my first son comming in may, so needless to say, funds are a little on the tight side. I'm thinking of a basic slab bass, like a 70's tele copy, hopefully with a darkstar, and i was thinking that was going to be a challenge, but i look at your's and i think, a slab bass, that's barely even a build! Very nice looking bass, can't wait to hear it! you need something on the head stock, it looks naked and lonely up there!

Okay, I've put one up on Zshare to see if it'll work...this is a slop version of Renegade with parallel coils:

Hey guys, for now I've removed the links to the zshare files because they seem to be causing issues as far as adware and triggering virus alerts...
