Rock solid advice, but not sure if you can find a Lull at this price. If I had $2000 I'd be checking the classifieds twice a day.
My Mike Lull PJ5 and Sadowsky Metro 5 string Jazz were around that price.

This. The parameters of a 5 string are more numerous than a 4. Do your self a favor by playing as many as you can, note what fits you best - then do some serious shopping.Work out what you want in a 5, before you start shopping... consider things like string spacing (16mm - 20mm), 34inch or 35 inch scale, active or passive, types of pickups, weight, etc. If you can hone in on some of these, it will narrow the scope for you.
You are right. I guess that's a big ask these days.
I bought mine off a guy who couldn't sell it. In the end he reduced the price and I was lucky enough to be there when he did. That was nearly 12 years ago. I know the prices have gone mad since. Maybe that wasn't such a good example!
I lucked into my Lakland 55-94 in pretty much the same way. The seller was having no luck on eBay and relisted the bass several times before I jumped on it, but, again, that was a long time ago, in 2003.
All I can say, there are bargains out there if you are patient, careful and are ready to move quickly.
I own a Schecter CV-5, and can tell anyone, this is a fantastic instrument.
Two humbuckers, a 3 way switch and either pickup can be set to series/parallel/single coil.
It has a vintage type sound to it.
It is exremely versatile.
$750 right now, but don’t let the moderate price mislead you, this bass is a sleeper.
Highly recommended.
Good luck.
Mike
