My first bass(still have it) was a Rogue that ran me $132,with cable,strap,pick,tuner,15w amp,and "instructional"CD. I replaced the the pots/pups,and rocked it for years. To this day,I absolutely LOVE the faces people make before and esp. after I plug in! I have received many begrudged compliments(and a few sheepish apologies) on the punch and tone of that lovable P.O.S.

If it sounds good,ROCK IT!!

That skull bass is way too cheezy even for me! Oh well, someone else would see that thing and immediately want it.

My First Act has become my main player over the last few weeks (while my OLP sits in it's case) and it just gets better the more I work on it. I've also filed down the sharp/rough edges of the nut and fret ends. Nice and smooth now.

I also had a 4-string Rogue back in 97-98 that I played many shows with and even recorded with. Never had any problems with it and it sounded just fine. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

Recently my music minister asked me if I had a cheap bass he could borrow and try to relearn to play. He played bass years ago in a blue grass gospel band. At the time, I didn't have anything he could use. I went into a local music store though and there was a first act bass on the wall for 50 bucks. I asked what the story was and Jaime (the guitar tech) said he worked on it for a guy. Shielded it, new pots, a full set up with new strings and the guy never came for it. It had been a year and they were trying to get their money back. I bought it and gave it to my music minister. He was very happy with it.

I think the bass had a great sound for only costing me 50 bucks.

One of my current favorite basses is a cheapo P clone, bought for $30 on CL. Dropped in a MIM pup, pulled the frets and sealed / refin the neck - love it. Body appears to be some type of pressboard - the lightest bass ever ! One of my all-time favorite basses was a Peavey Patriot - sub-$100, wish I never got rid of it. Money does NOT equal coolness in all cases. I love cheap basses ! Good find ! I guarantee if you took the First Act logo off the headstock and replaced with another logo, people would tell you how cool the bass was all the time.

Nice, I dig that body. The dice are a great touch too. If you're going to play something that people think is cheap or whatever, that's cool it's off the beaten path as opposed to something generic with no character.
First Act should probably be a more respected brand, their custom shop is pretty excellent and lots of great artists play them: Invalid Link Removed

Yeah, and they also said it nails down the low end with ease and has pickups with 'vintage-like' tone and ultimate clarity. Might as well just had the description say "Insert load of BS here _____"
