First Act Bass...let the flame fest begin..

You're right about that! I'll have to see about changing that....
Maybe the black knobs will have the correct number.
I like it. Lightweight, sounds good, looks cool and not like everyone else's bass. I'm good to go. Upgrades coming up for it. Pickup, pots, bridge, straploks and then it'll be perfect!
I just dropped a Desert Dawg (local guitar parts company) P-bass pickup in along with new CTS pots and a Switchcraft jack last night. (Plus a nice set of Schaller Straplocks to keep it off the ground!) What a difference! The tone has improved 100%. Only thing left to get now is the Gotoh 201 bridge and I'm set! Can't wait to try it out at band practice this weekend!

i got a first act guitar off CL a few months ago - after a little truss rod tweaking and a new set of elixirs (skinny top heavy bottoms) it plays great for an $80 guitar. not saying it compares to an ibanez s540 or anything, but hey. anything with a straight neck for under $100 is a steal.
i was looking into a couple of 4's on CL around here, but ended up trading a laptop for a pretty nice ibanez instead.

I've tried FA basses and I wouldn't hit a dog in the butt with one. $40 or not! Just can't compare to my SX! But that's just me.
Don't get me wrong. I'm a HUGE fan of the cheapo but unique tone mojo thing. I've got a short scale "Kingston" bass that is like nothing else. I've got an old Reso guitar that has a busted and glued neck that is SO harsh in the tone that it kills! I've got a "junk" Hamer Slammer with an electric tone that nothing matches. An old Yamaha "image" guitar that nothing looks or sounds like. And on and on.
The key is to find a junk instrument with "personality" that really fits some music you are trying to play. It works! However, let me also give you the "secret" which is to secretly go in and fix all the things that made junk instrument "junk". The pots, the wiring, the shielding, (usually NOT the pickups), the set up, etc. Now to me THAT is "mojo"!
So as for FA basses, I guess in my case it's not the name on the headstock that's the problem, but just that I never played a kind of music where the FA sound made it better.

Seriously, that First Act bass has an amazing price and it seems as though you like the way it looks, sounds, and plays. So, whatever anyone else thinks is irrelevant. Go forth and make music with it!
