A short Beethoven piece at a piano recital when I was about six. I muffed one note, and was thoroughly embarrassed!

I think the first rock tune I played on stage (i.e., a livingroom at a party) in a band was Pinball Wizard. We had no bassist. I was on lead guitar and vocals, my brother was on drums, and a buddy was on second guitar. I took up bass the following year, and my friend stayed on guitar.

My first gig on bass was with a band I had never heard before that was doing college radio music. We scribbled some chords for each song on a piece of paper taped to the back of the PA and everything was 4/4. It was hella fun and at the bar listed below VV

I was part of a group that would rent out the bar across the street from the University of South Alabama, buy a few kegs, pay a soundguy $250, and get our 3 bands to play. We charged $5 at the door and made a killing.

My first "non school-related" gig was when I was 15. I had just started high school. I played bass and sang lead vocals for a trio that I formed with my buddies. Our first show (actually on a stage), we played a list of mainly Motorhead and other early metal bands. Our first song was Breadfan by Budgie. I was super nervous, but we dove into the songs head first and succeeded. We played a few songs faster than we originally planned, but that's what excitement does. It was also my first bass solo: Motorhead's "Stay Clean." I used my olympic white (with black pickguard) P bass, and a friends Trace Elliot tube rig (200 watt head and two 115's).
