first time playing in front of a crowd AHHHHHHH!

Advise time

1. If u screw up act as if u tried to do it or pretend it didnt happen because the crowd only knows what u let them know.

2.This might be a bad thing but when i get nervous for a show I just go over the songs in my head over and over again until i can play them on trombone/ become obsessive about it and get no sleep until I know it lol.

3.Remember they are there to see you and ur band mates so turn on the Al Pacino speech in "Any Given Sunday" and get pumped so u can rock the ?">?$%$^#@#$ out of the place. (link for speech is down bottom)

On my way to play at Willie Nelson's 4th of July Picnic. We probably only play 4 songs but it will be in front of 25,000 more or less. Not to mention video coverage worldwide. Wanna get nervous? Forget it. It's a piece of cake.

Edit

4 hours for a first gig, you deserve a medal.

I think most of the points have been covered already but don't worry about it although a few nerves are natural and normal.

If your confidence needs a bit of a boost and the audience seem a little intimidating just think 'I'm up here playing and you're not'. Not quite 'You are all cabbage' but along the same lines.

I often think back to my first gig, we were 15 or 16 years old and played a junior school dance. They thought we were wonderful, looking back now I am not so sure what their parents thought of us.

Good luck

Man Up and play the thing! Your bass player for Gods Sakes not a Doctor! LOL
Just kidding just do your best if you forget a line or lose your way do not make any faces and just find the root notes and play them till it comes back to you no one will notice unless you give it away " bass player you guys have a bass player?" one person said to my drummer after I was busting my butt all night and he said yeah that guy is the bass player and he said I thought he played lead?

it gets worse as the days gets closer and on the day of the gig time almost stands still stomach in knots and then you play.first song is the hard one after thats over the gig is finished in what feels like 20 seconds and you just cant wait to do it again..enjoy it while you can there comes a point where you just dont feel anything because your so used to it....have fun thats the main thing!

I have never really had the knots in stomach feeling etc. some of our bigger shows i got a little bit of that feeling but as soon as we took stage it was gone. Since i got back to music i have not had problems with my nerves..yet.

On the sets going quick. I used to feel this way but now sometimes it feels like we are onstage forever. We played two festivals this month and played both 2 hours show's without a break and i felt like they both would never end. I had a great time but it was like forever on stage.
