i alternate between my eqd rainbow machine for chorus and boss bf-3 flanger. they are both glorious

Boss BF-3 is my favorite modulation, although for variety I use phaser, chorus, and tremolo as well. Something about fuzz into the BF-3 is hard to let go of.

If I ended up with another BF3 I'd just throw it in the trash. They really went wrong on it.

I certainly do. I'm a big fan of chorus and flanger effects on bass. I currently own an mxr micro flanger. pretty good flanger for if you want a basic jet flanging sound. recently, I've been interested in buying a mooer e-lady flanger(it was called the eleclady at one point. I don't know why they change the name). I do like the swirling flanging sounds that this pedal provides. would like to test one out on bass.

The Eleclady was really nice on bass when I had it. I didn't really hear an appreciable difference between it and the EHX Mistress. Ultimately I preferred the tones of my TC SCF set to flange, but for the price and the small footprint, it is tough to beat the Eleclady.

Maybe Mooer didn't want to get in trouble with EH for having a clone named too similar to the "electric mistress", but then again EH doesn't seem to mind when their older Muff circuits are clone with similar names so maybe its because it's easier to pronounce?

Flanger is cool, but I prefer chorus when it comes to modulation.

Nope. But that was done only so you don't need a carry permit.

Off and on. Its part of my rotation of modulation effects. Typically I'm happy with a chorus, then the chorus sounds too "80's" so I get a phased which eventually sounds too funky for non funk so I go for a tremolo then I want a chorus but I remember not liking chorus so I get flanger which has too much top end swirl so I get a chorus.

Hahaha man effects are a crippling addiction. Someone save us.

I use a TC Vortex on a small percentage of tunes, but I look forward to stepping on it! My favorite tune to use it on is Harry Nilsson's Jump Into The Fire (w/pick)- the original doesn't have any effect, but it brings the intensity up a notch.

It can be subtle, but adjusting the feedback and depth control together can get nutty. The Moog and Boss are also great choices.

Thanks guys. I am trying to decide between a Moog Flanger or a Boss BF-2.

Had the Moog, kept the Bf-2. The Moog did this weird thing with the time knob, were it seemed to create a double repeat unless it matched the rate knob setting. Didn't fully understand it.

Agree 1000000%. That's the problem I had with my BF-2, as amazing as it was. Every time I turned it on I just sounded too much like Justin from Tool. To me that means the sound is played out and I sold the pedal.

If you set the resonance low and the depth high you get a more subtle effect, closer to chorus, and it sounds great.

As far as Boss pedals go, the BF-2 is okay if you don't want a super dramatic sweep.; the HF-2 and BF-2B are much better for that because they sweep much higher. As for alternatives, the new A/DA PBF, TC Vortex, and Strymon Orbit are worth checking out, and are all superior to the Boss pedals IMO.

Maxon FL-301 for me. Its my go-to modulation effect for bass. Excellent tone, not too "metallic."

I also have a bf2 that I don't use much.
