I had a brief unfortunate "bedazzling" fetish in 6th grade trying to look like Keith Partridge, wherein every significant seam on my elephant bell bottoms was accented with press-in metal studs. I think I actually wore them a few times before realizing I looked like a complete tool.

About two weeks ago; newspaper "USA Today" tried to say that bellbottoms are coming back into style because they had a paparazzi photo of Katie Holmes wearing them recently.

All the time. They are called "boot cut" these days.

Boot cut is a different shape then the flare or bell bottom jeans of old. Close but no cigar.

Levi's Big Bells and T-shirts were pretty much what I wore from '72 until '77. Still had a pair a few years ago, except the waist seemed to have shrunk considerably... gave a pair to a young friend for her High School '60s theme week and I bet she still has 'em.

And "boot cut" aren't the same as bells.

Oh yeah bell bottoms (with a little embroidery action on ocassion), flares, boot cut, Cracker Jacks in the Navy. I never liked skinny leg jeans.

I have a pair of True Religions that I scored while thrift shopping. They're probably the closest thing to a modern bell-bottom, but still aren't quite the same thing. I'd love to get my hands on a great fitting, legit pair of bell bottoms.

Funnily enough, I was just pondering bell bottoms last week. They looked nice in their era, and it would be cool if they came back in a tasteful way.

Back in the day that is pretty much all we wore. Here is a photo I took of my 17 yo girlfriend, later to be my wife, in the 70's. She still has these jeans packed away in a box in the garage. Maybe she could ware them at next years Halloween party.

I was born in 1973, but there's a picture of me out there somewhere, at about five or six years old, wearing a pretty sweet pair of "Toughskins" red sort of flared bells. There were like really extra-wide boot cuts. I don't know what happened to the picture anymore, but I recall that they were my favorite pants, with a really big belt buckle.

That totally reminds me of that episode of That 70s show where Bob has the entire family dress up in American flag bell-bottomed jumpsuits when Gerald Ford comes for a town hall meeting.

I was also born in 1973... I think our generation were the last to wear the true bell bottoms... Boot cuts are similar, but not authentic bells...

That could be. The ones I had were definitely not like standard boot cut, which I'm wearing right now. These were way wider. I think they were hand-me-downs from an older child of family friends.

Mine belonged to my older brother! They were purple corduroy and the bells were so wide you could have used them as umbrellas!
