I use D'Addario Chromes (flats) with a pick on my Yamaha BB1200s. Sounds fantastic. In addition, with the active EQ set properly I can get a rounds sounds with no string squeak, ease of playing, etc. So, really have the best of both worlds.

Ironically, sometimes a softer pick sounds better than a harder pick with flats to get that classic tone described above.
