The Cowsills...now there's a story that actually sits pretty far from the popular image.
Some genuine talent there, a career screwed up by a dad. Bud Cowsill, on the order of an less capable Murray Wilson or Joe Jackson.
Bill(y) was the Brian Wilson of the truly gifted siblings. His work with the Blue Shadows was especially great. "Three Christians and a junkie" as he described it. The surviving four members are still working. Still hitting some great harmonies.
A benefit concert to Bill, who was in the hospital with liver failure, big bills.
Barry died in Katrina, refused to leave New Orleans. Bill soon after.
Barry's song here.

When I first moved to LA, early 90’s, I saw them(just the adult kids)in a club, and they were great, the newer material was in the vein of Tom Petty(which stands to reason as Susan hung with the Petty/Dwight Twilley crowd, and sang backing vocals on records). They were really giving it a shot to be taken seriously as (then-)contemporary artists, but it didn’t get off the ground. After that she was in a rootsy band, the Continental Drifters, with Vickie Peterson (Bangles)and Peter Holsapple(the dB’s), I saw them as well.
At this point the Cowsills with surviving members work the oldies circuit(‘Happy Together’ tours).
