Smart move with the single coil pickups, they rip over the dual coils, IMO

last shot with exposed pole pieces and more of the sap.

But, can't you make the dual coils into single coils.....![]()
Not even close, hence, why very few have them set to single coil mode while playing, IMONo..You can split dual coils so only one coil is on but they never sound like true single coils...

Dual coils are very rarely set to single coil mode since they don't sound like true single coils, cool? Just sold my Fodera, I'm out of the club, later rich dudesWhat?
Single coil mode sounds great on the duals. It's not the same as having singles in there, but it still has a lot of the characteristics of singles in that there's lots of air in them. And I do NOT like the phasey/comb filtery crunch lateral humbuckers give when the pan pot is centered. I almost never run humbucking unless I'm doing something in particular like all neck for a P bass thing or favored bridge for blowing.
Personally I really like the dummy coil PU's. Where the second coil's magnets aren't magnetized. When you kill that coil you're left with a much more nearly single coil sound than with the straight dual coils. Humbucking sounds MUCH more like single coil because of the narrower magnetic aperature.
There are down sides, though, in that you don't get the beef you get from a humbucker when you really need it. All in all, I think the standard dual coils do the job the best. I run mine in series which is way fatter and warmer than parallel.
What do you mean, an "example"? Like a sound clip? I don't have one, and I couldn't point you to one. I've tried LOTS and LOTS of different pups in my bass in a very wide variety of positions. Dummies have something going on for sure. But, like I said, they have a down side.
Thanks! Concerning the Single Coil/Dual Coil question, I will soon upload a track, so you can judge if it sounds "right".bassboss, I love your pair! The Emperor Deluxe is gorgeous.
