Fodera Club Part III

Emperor II Six String
Mahogany Body
Walnut Top (2 piece)
3 piece maple neck (35" scale)
Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard (24 frets)
SD Dual Coils w/ top matching covers
Fodera Pope Pre
Gold Hardware

I am considering upgrading to the extended-b headstock. From those who have experience with that headstock, how do you feel about it's benefits?

I have the extended-B headstock and like it a lot. It seems to give the B string more of a clear tone up the neck and does not get "woofy". Also the feel of the B string is more consistent over the entire fretboard.

Thanks, gre107. Is yours a 5 or 6 string? Have you noticed an effect on the E string (which on the six-strings, it looks like the E-string is quite a bit shorter)?

Mine is a 5 string bolt on 21 fret. No, the E string is just fine. actually I think the E string is the normal length compared to a 4 string. The string tension and feel is effortless.

Overall, I've never played anything like it. I just can't see me parting with it. Playing live or recording the bass just handles it all. I've actually been experimenting lately using the passive mode as well, and have been very happy with it.

Only suggestion that I have is when you get it make sure that you adjust the active pot to match the volume of the passive output.

The active output seems to be tweeked a little high when they leave the shop.

Switching between the two then is very functional.

I've played a number with and without it, and there was no obvious or subtle effect I could find, other than a heavier headstock. None of the extended-B had particularly great B strings, and the same goes for the ones without, generally speaking. It's not worth it, imo, and it looks and functions silly.

Back in the Club!
I've owned probably about 20 Fodera's now and this one might be the best. According to Jason underneath the EMG covers are probably a P in neck and a J in the bridge, just like Vic's 5 string. What ever they are it works. Plus I've always been a fan of the Monarch body style over the Emperor.

No top.... James Genus has a nice 36" Emperor Elite showing all ash body wings. He owned a few different Emperors.. all older ones.
His main bass the all ash one had bart pickups an haz 3 band... later changed that to duncans and pope pre-amp.
By the way he started that craze on those bass mute things on the foderas, those are made by a great builder here in Holland where I live.

A lot of things happing at Fodera and I can't wait to see the results. Can you tell more about the new design :)

Also I found this picture on Janek Gwizdala's facebook. It's not him playing the Fodera I know. But is this his new Fodera MG. No preamp?
