I'm down with a Monarch as well. The dovetail neck joint is pure sex though. I'm far from a millionaire and frankly after plunking down $5K on the YYS I'd have to make some serious choices to fire off another big chunk of money. That said, I have brought in enough new projects at my day job to have my team covered for almost the next 2 years, am gigging like mad, and I'm not getting any younger.

As for Std vs Dlx - it is the subtleties. I'm a sucker for wood and sublime construction and the Dlx takes that to the next level. I could live with a Monarch though :D

The sad thing is that I was working on some things last night and swapping back and forth between the YYS and my previously beloved AmDlxP. The Fodera has ruined me...

Even though I played an Emperor Elite for years, I've always dug the more P Bass inspired Monarch design.

+1 to the Deluxe spec (dovetail neck, or whatever that glue on method is called). Especially if you want a solid top, which is quite an upgrade on the neck through Elite models, the set neck is the way to go. Sonically, any differences would be trivial IMO and IME, and you get the neck through feel with basically a free solid top!

Yeah, for some reason J-style body offsets just aren't as comfortable to me. And I've tried them all. More P-bass bodies (stock P, Monarch, Zon Sonus, etc) just fit me better. I have to admit that the Garrison singlecut intrigues me. It took me a little while to figure out how to approach a singlecut with my Rob Allen, but it ends up being kinda cool - a bit of upright sensibility thrown into the left hand technique.

For what it's worth, I love the Garrison body style and have had two now (still have one!), but in the last 20 minutes I've learned how much a Monarch really feels like home. It probably helps that the only other non-Fodera I play regularly is a Sonus, but still, everything just sits exactly how and where it should on the Monarch (for me).

I can see why the monarch might be more comfortable, but do you think there's something about the singlecut body styles that offer a different tone?

I have an Emperor II coming next week so I'll be finding out how well that works for me. I bought the bass used with the idea that I might play it for awhile, and then custom order a new one based on my experiences with the Emperor. Of course I would play it til the new one comes, assuming I like it!

The one I'm most curious is the rare Imperial II (formerly Beez Elite). Any comments on that design? It looks like their most slimmed down singlecut. The MG also has some appeal.

I'm guessing that a Garrison probably is not on the lighter side of things? From nosing around some of the dealer sites that publish weights seems like they likely would be 9-10lbs. One downside to a non-chambered singlecut perhaps...for us wimps that is.

My Emperor Elite 5 is chambered Walnut and is around 10 lbs. Not bad for me. Sure next to my Rob Allen :smug:

I played Gwizdala and Garrisons bass and they were not heavy. The downsizes body and the ash neck is lighter. I believe that ash neck is lighter than maple neck
