The NYC line was deliberately designed by Vinny and Joey to walk a middle ground...rooted in old-school vintage, yet sounding and playing much more like a Fodera. Both the NYC 5 AND the Emperor are original designs, but the NYC is clearly a more derivative one...with less of the flowing lines normally associated with Vinny's shapes.

And now for the hint of the day...

Ash body, 5A Bi-Color Flame Maple top and old growth Pau Ferro FB.

I don't. There is something different about the NYC body shape. It is more like a larger traditional jazz bass IMO. I think the Emperor's are much more sexy and detailed if you will. That was my initial thought/fear at first, but under close analysis, they are very different in shape.

Interesting that they have a string tree. Looks like the headstock is straight? That was Leo's trick for getting more necks out of less wood.

The headstock looks straight, similar what was done on the YYS.

Congrats, that is awesome... I bet they will all be reserved by lunch, if not sooner.

If I was to hop in to reserve one in the #61-120 production, I would like number 73 (*even though I know that they are picked at random).

Just a quick update. The email went out a bit less than 2 hours ago. We've been pretty swamped and have less than 30 of the first 60 left.

Tom Kennedy will be taking #1P out on the road with him and #2P will be staying at the shop (and going to BP Live) as a Demo model. The Production instruments will be 99.9% identical to the two prototypes and will start with serial number 1 shipping on, or before, April 1, 2012.

Hi Jason, the Standard looks great. I was wondering a few things about it:

1. What control layout is that?

2. Is Pau Ferro the only board..or will Indian be included?
