Yeah, I will probably try rounds later on... I was really just trying to make sure that the setup got dialed in perfectly right from the factory with the flats. The beauty of it all is that we can do whatever we want, right? What a country!!!

Regarding shipping, no, not overnight, but second day, arriving Wednesday. I wanted to minimize the in-transit time, but also saved a FEW dollars in going this route. I'm beginning to think I made a bad choice though...now that I've actually laid eyes in it, I'd rather not wait even the extra 24 hours. Oh...and it turns out what stinks even MORE is that I've got a late day at work on Wednesday...probably won't be home until, at the earliest, 7:30pm (waaayyyy late for me). I couldn't have planned THAT any worse. ICK!! :bawl:

So Curt's bass IS a MONSTER. And the flats he supplied us with are the nicest feeling ones I have personally played. Although it should make it into the Newborn Section shortly, I am woefully behind on posting my comments about each Newborn to our site (yes, I personally post each comment).

My family is moving this week (me with them, of course) and after being in one house for 14 years with two kids, my GOD I never realized how much stuff there is to do and pack!! I haven't even had time for a good shave! LOL...

I will be scarce at both the shop and here on TB for the better part of the rest of this week. I apologize in advance...

Curt I think that you will really dig the bass...we all did!

Apparently they had some 60s sounding groove going. As far as I'm concerned, if it sounds a bit more old school that the typical Fodera does, that is PERFECTLY fine by me!! I cannot WAIT to have it in my hot little hands!

Thanks to all at Fodera. I hope I've not violated some super secret rule by posting a picture taken at the factory, but I just couldn't help myself :hyper:

Hey Jason, congrats on the new place!

I have a quick question while we're on the topic of strings. I noticed that the specs for the E5S state that they will be strung up with stainless steel strings. Is it possible to request that they be set up with nickels instead? That set of diamond nickel strings I bought at the shop back in July blew me away... I don't think I'll play a different string ever again.

By the way, Curt, that baby is phenomenal. I really love the figuration on the maple, looks more like quilt than flame!! The next two days are just going to fly...

I believe that bass was spec'd quilt/ebony (not that I was pondering it or anything :D).

Jason, as someone who has moved 4 times in the past 7 years (uggh, really?!?), moving is a great opportunity to fill multiple dumpsters and Goodwill locations with stuff that you don't need and others could use. I've downsized each time (except for my bass essentials and son's musical instruments). When I would end up packing to move and found stuff in boxes that I hadn't unpacked from the last time, I knew that stuff was probably unimportant.

Moving sucks. Best of luck with it. Just think of how happy you'll be when it is over :D

HUGE props to you for using Thomastic Infeld Jazz flats on this bass.

As you know, I sold my Yin Yang (Deluxe) to Jason, but had I not, I was planning on restringing it with TIJFs as well.

Because of the sale, I have an Alleva Coppolo Custom strung with them now to get that vibe, and I LOVE it!

You'll have to make me a recording (or youtube) when you get it. I'm DYING to hear it.

I'm very excited for you.

Hi everyone!

And a heartfelt thank you to all who have sent their best wishes... Well, the bass is here, and I am, well, like, WOW! Never having even seen a Fodera in person, much less held or played one...I am about as close to speechless as one can be. I have never even held an instrument that is as 'one of a piece' as this thing is. I don't know how else to say it. It's like it was hewn out of a solid piece of wood. It's spectacularly DENSE FEELING, but actually light in weight. I mean that in the best possible way. I've NEVER felt anything quite like it. And I have 15 guitars/basses. Nothing compares to this bass. NOTHING! The workmanship is simply perfect. There isn't anything on this thing that isn't just...perfect! For the price, you would expect it to be perfect, but there's a difference between expecting, and actually seeing it in front of your eyes. Everything about it perfectly balanced, not just in terms of body/neck, but everything. I wish I could articulate what I'm feeling, and I'm afraid that I'm babbling, but I can't help it. That's just what this thing does to me. I an only say that I hope no young bassist ever gets one of these in their hands, because nothing else would ever come close to meeting this standard; they'd be ruined for life!

Now, on to what it plays like. Someone told me that Foderas play, not 'like butter', but rather 'like melted butter on a teflon surface.' Amazingly true. I'd asked that it be set up with action as low as possible. To say that they met that request would be to minimize the obvious skill it took to create an instrument that allows bass strings to sit so close to the frets and not make a sound that they're not supposed to. Phenomenal! I love the way the thing plays. Understatement of the decade! I would give you a report on the sound, but I've just barely started to hear what it can do, and I'm too tired and too nervous with this new toy to be able to do too much with it, yet. I will, and pictures are coming too, though you all know what it looks like. Suffice to say that I heard what sounded like at least a few Wooten tones out of it. Really. Not trying for that, they just happened.

Thank goodness for the excellence that is Fodera! Thanks to Jason, Vinny and Joey for making my perfect bass :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Perfect response, Curt. I know it has been a long and scary road for you, but it sounds like you have definitely found your path. I can't way to hear more as you come to know her better.

Now you know why after getting my YYS I sold my Fender AmDlxP. Which was actually a *really* good bass. As in the best Fender I've owned/played. But a Fodera spoils you. To date the only other bass that slays me to the same extent is my Rob Allen but that is a totally different beast (and Jason is a fan of Rob's work).

Your Fodera will inspire you to try stuff you didn't think you could pull off, and other times it will lead you places you didn't know existed. The price that you pay (other than financial) is that it is an incredibly honest bass...like a perfect mirror. So if you don't do something right you'll know it. The upside though is that it is so intoxicating to play you'll happily woodshed until the cows come home or the neighbors complain (whichever comes first).

Congrats, though you know TB rules. No pics, no bass :D

Congrats Curt. Your description was superb and makes me want to buy another one just to get that first time feeling, again.... I've owned 6 and still have 5 so i am saving myself for something special. I told Jason i want the first 30th anniversary Standard whatever it is.... not sure if he took me serious but i may have to settle for first 5... It's always great to hear from another lucky soul to own one. I got my first in 1983 and got to watch Vinny and Joey finish it in front of my eyes over several weeks and then pick the woods for number 2 and so on. One bolt on (YYS#9) couple neck throughs and rest dovetail. each has its own character and my favorite changes constantly and sometimes is just as simple as the one with the freshest strings... I have been thinking about flats on one of them and you and Steu have gotten me there. I usually use labella flats on my basses but sounds like TI's are the way to go , at least on my fodera. Now which one :-) Jim

Ps - Congrats on the new home Jason. I am sure the wife is happy and you'r exhausted.

Thanks Jim and Todd... @nostatic...pictures may have to wait until Friday...but I REALLY wanna put some up here, even though everybody knows what a YYD looks like. This one is MY YYD :D The quilt top and the birdseye fretboard are just fabulous. I can't wait to see that fretboard in natural light. it's got a LOT of figure in it, or so it seems.

Cool...I had the impression that Jason wouldn't be getting mine up on the Newborns page for awhile... Imagine my surprise! Thanks, Todd! Yeah, that figure in the ebony is one of the few advantage of the Deluxe. I'm a huge 'wood' fan (well, I suppose we all are, right?) so that additional bit of wooden goodness just makes this bass, for me, that much mo' betta'
