Fodera Club Part VI

We would love to attend. Unfortunately, the show is very, very expensive for us and every time Joey and I go to a show, we are not in the shop building basses.

We were thinking of attending in 2011, but instead we will probably just schedule some clinics at our German Dealer, Station Music. Stay tuned! We will be in Germany some time this year...

I think the one downside to stationmusic seem to be that they don't really SEEM to care for the instruments there.
Or at least slip sometimes.

I went to frankfurt some years back and saw their booth .
A fodera I tried there had the worst fret sprout I have ever seen on any bass. Period.
What they said when I asked about it was that something like that is easily remedied.

Of course it is. I knew that. Anyone knows that. Things like that do not only happen to poor quality wood.

But shouldn't that be done before exhibiting the instrument in quedstion, especially if it has a price tag ,two or three times that of many very fine basses (import costs, middle man cut etc...on top of the bass's price I guess leads to that?).

An extremely poor representation of what might have been a good bass by a good manufacturer.

Just thinking...

Important:
The SEEM is there for a reason.
I am here talking about one experience which I found shocking but do not know how well instruments are usually cared for at Stationmusic.
I would expect/hope for this to have been a one off.

you have one of those "tulip-shaped" 6-strings? did you buy it originally? i had one that was a maple body that i traded back to the shop for another 6 they made me.

yes. i will get a picture. It actually is at the shop right now. has been for a while....Maple body, zebrawood top, rosewood fretboard with custom double bass inlays Vinny did by hand while i watched....

i think i owned that bass for a while. the basses are at the 12th fret, no?

you had it originally? i bought used from them and owned around 93-94, or something like that. traded back in to get a mahogany body/maple top/ebony board aj6 made.

i've always wondered about reacquiring that bass. serious low end on that bass. used it on one recording, killed.

i used four, as i recall:

i tuned the maple fingerboard walnut tuned down a whole step (A-Bb) for the nels cline piece.

two basses (fretted/fretless) tuned up a minor third (D-Eb)for the golia and dresser pieces

one in standard tuning (B-C) for the varner piece

yes that is mine. still at their shop. Actually never sold it back to them. i guess that means you borrowed it.

Mike Bendy, he and his brother (Jon) play with Julius in band together. "Bendy" is short for a longer last name I can remember how to spell.

I can't wait to see that! Like "Lennard III." said, I wish Fodera would come to Frankfurter Musik-Messe again. I think last time when I was there (Must be 2008), Epifani had a booth there and some Foderas were on exhibition.

Since the guy from the Epifani booth thrust an Emperor 5 into my hand and plugged it into the Epifani, I always wanted to play that again. More importantly I have always played 34" Basses until that point and got a bit overwhelmed then (I was about 15 years old at that time).

Meanwhile, I'm 17 years old, grew up very fast and my hands are as big as a toilet lid (of course not!).
What I'm trying to say is that I now have more experiences in bass playing, better sense of build quality and a better technique to handle these great basses. I just want to play that Foderas again !

Come to Germany again, please!
