Fodera Club Part VIII

That used to be Mike Bendy's. He called it an "Essence Bass." All of the tonal goodies, but none of the extras (like a fancy top). I am pretty sure that the bass just had a straight set of Duncan Dual Coils...I do not remember what the deal was with the ramps / routing, but again, I am pretty certain that they are Duncans in plastic covers...

that bass solo in Crazy Fingers is my transcription of Garcia's tremendous solo on the studio version, from the Dead's "Blues for Allah' album. i chose a sort of "hotel society orchestra" vibe for the arrangement, and that solo fits like a glove- Garcia's love of Django and Willie Nelson is channeled heavily, and i think it's one of his very best studio solos. ** and no, weirdly enough, that's not MIDI- it's the bass in unison with a cheap Casio keyboard's "whistle" setting... we had each other's nuances down, and the blend is what's heard. That whole CD was recorded live at the knitting factory.

Illuminati's re-boot gig will be in december, at brooklyn bowl- we haven't played in almost 9 years, and i'm planning to get the band very much back on the scene, playing my originals and arrangements and dead stuff etc etc. i'll keep you posted here or FB if that's ok.

gosh all these years I thought you were using a midi p/up, bass and casio blended extremely well. The arrangement on Allah and Terrapin are stellar.

Keep me in the loop when y'all do the 'reboot', thank you for the add!

I got to play Mikes bass and it had a nice tone and played very well.

I know how you feel. I have both the aj contrabassguitar and a custom dual soap bar pickups presentation. They give me as a player a fantastic inspiration. It's hard to keep in it's bag. You just wan't to play it.

I was treated to meeting 'Olive' in person on Thursday. :hyper:

She's a real beauty in so many ways. Visually stunning of course. Jason, Carl and I are very fortunate to own one of the best ever Olive tops to grace the Fodera shop.

The playability is perfect with 17.5mm spacing and it's thin/fast neck. Kudos to Fodera for offering the new 17.5mm bridge for those of us that don't have extended length fingers.

The build quality is incredible! Need I say anymore.

All in all, a lovely tribute to both of my wonderful mothers. They would be very proud to be associated with such a splendid bass.

Dave, she's a beaut. Olive II looks so much better in natural light (and in your hands) than in the Newborns section.
Tell me more about her when you've settled back home. Jason, I hope you'll treat us to a build diary for Olive III.

We definitely can (and do) build instruments with no tops. Presently...we are not offering colored paint with gloss finishes, however.

Olive III and her sister (being built at the same time with a Brazilian top that has spalted sapwood in it) will definitely be heavily photographed and I imagine make their way into our SmugMug galleries...
