Ask the folks who order them? I am having a bass built with Pau Ferro because I wanted a softer overall tone to the instrument. Although I am on the fence about using walnut vs mahogany for the body...

Cool. I have a question for you Jason, and this is again kinda subjective and yes, deals with woods. I not see many Fodera's with Pau Ferro boards ?? It's a great wood!! Why so ??

That's pretty much game over for me.

I have NO IDEA. We LOVE this wood and have a killer stash of Pau Ferro that we BOUGHT 20 years ago...it is so wonderfully dark, tight grained and sounds killer. For some reason this wood gets a bad rap among our Customers...very few ask for it. Vinny, Joey and I would use it very often if we were asked to as it is a fantastic tone wood and sounds great with our instruments. Brighter than Indian Rosewood, but still with some nice warmth...

Jason if you get a chance maybe post some pictures of the Pau Ferro? Who knows it may spark some interest in future orders.

By the way, the pau ferro on Fodera is darker in color than those I have seen on other instruments, because it is well-aged?

I've never seen Pau Ferro that looks like that. It's absolutely gorgeous! Usually when I see Pau Ferro it looks like bleached out rosewood and it's very unattractive in my opinion. This looks a lot more like Indian rosewood.

I received production notice for my order. And, it is going to enter final production on September 2, 2011. My mockup is finally going to be real! Thank you so much for Jason!! And, about 2 years ago, there were peers who place an order around the same time. How's it going? I cannot wait November!!

That's going to be incredible! If you don't mind I'd love to check it out at some point when you get it. I'm in Boston as well...a student at Beklee.

That topwood looks related to mine, except I don't have the zone of flame in the middle.

That's nice! And that's just a great feeling. Makes me want to go through the process again :) I miss the mails between the dealer (ultimatebasses.ca) and Jason :D

No, it has nothing to do with the age...all of our Pau Ferro was hand selected by Vinny over 20 years ago. Pau Ferro varies very significantly in color. We have some that is lighter and some that is darker, but none that looks like the washed, out, bland stuff most people seem to associate with this wood. That's one of the things that I love about my partners (Vinny and Joey) and the whole Fodera mindset -- they have always taken the time to hand select the best woods and have been willing to pay a premium to get them.
