Fodera Club Part X

Post your Foderaholic stories...

Hi, my name is Jason, I currently have 12 Foderas (just took delivery of two this past week). My bass equipment buying life was (relatively) normal until a friend let me play his Fodera some 8 years ago or so. I now must play them everyday!

Actually, I am really bummed as my two Monarchs that I ordered in the Fall of 2009 were just completed this past week and they are STUNNING instruments. One of our Team, Amanda, who is responsible for putting the Newborn pictures up on the web was out a couple of days this week due to the death of her grandfather...so no Newborn pics until next week. It has been so busy at the shop that I haven't even had time to shoot photos of my own basses!

Anyway, one thing that I can say for absolute certain...those that say woods make no difference in the tone of electronic instruments.......play these two! They were built at exactly the same time, by exactly the same people with exactly the same pup spacing, electronics and geometry. The ONLY difference? One has an Ash body, birdseye maple FB and an Olive top and the other has an Alder body with a Brazilian FB and a Brazilian top and they sound exactly like you would expect them to sound...that is to say warm, round and "old school" (Alder/RW) and the other being articulate, punchy and on the brighter side (Ash/Maple). You can hear it really well acoustically and this difference only gets multiplied when I plug them in.

I cannot wait to share photos with you as they are as stunning to look at as they are to play. Dare I say it? For the first time in 8 years I think I may no longer have GAS...until I fall off the wagon. LOL!

Hi Dr Jason and welcome back.

The clubhouse hasn't been the same without your presence, in honesty the therapy wasn't quite as beneficial. I'm sure a few of the other patients would agree.

I'm looking forward to seeing those two beauties, shame we can't get a side by side shot of yours and Olive-fodera's.

You confess to now being the owner of no less than "12" Fodera's, that's a hefty burden to bear..LOL; I'm interested to know how you managed your addiction all these years without Mrs Thumpin getting on your case?

I'm guessing that the last two basses were the tipping point and the trade-off was to buy Mrs Thumpin her dream home, true?

Brilliant strategy..but us lesser folks still sweat and palpitate at the thought of even uttering "I may need a third bass, honey"!

So what's the deal.. do you get to choose your own playroom, can you design it to your own spec's or are you having to share with the pets?

I kinda like the dog-house, a bit smelly but that's due to my lack of hygiene.

Sorry, Curt but it only get's worse, there's no antivenom...

Look at me; bought my Fodera Emp 5 on May 15th 2011, then laid out a deposit for the MG6 on June 27th. Isn't that just downright sinful..

Even though I knew I wanted a custom build, I wasn't sure of my spec's but the wait time affords me the opportunity to do my homework and consult with my distributor (a wonderfully patient and knowledgeable man) in conjunction with the more than helpful Mr Thumpin.

Just be sure to do your homework and make sure it's what you want/need before you proceed. Oh..and a cautionary note, don't do it if your finances are already stretched.
There's always opportunities to get another later on..

A new house and two new monarchs,all at pretty much the same time...Nice!

Will you be putting up soundclips somewhere?
It would be interesting to hear the difference the wood combo makes.

It's nice to be back. Mrs. Thumpin' is, thank God, a very patient and understanding sort. I've always have been upfront with her about my GAS and she has been reasonably understanding of my love of making music and buying beautiful instruments...

As for the dream home, the two were not related. Deb (my wife) and I have always looked at houses -- even when we had no intention of moving. Then we stumbles upon something really special at post-crash pricing...

No, that's just you taking over a month to come to your senses :hiding:

I ordered my Skjolds long before I ever picked up a Fodera. Once all the basses I have on order come home to roost I'll figure out what is staying, what is going, and which Fodera I'll order next :D

A few things...

First off, Todd, your rough cut was darn nice! You really did a nice job. Did you do all the tracks yourself? I'm impressed!

Secondly, no one has helped convince me that a second Fodera isn't a good idea. If I do this thing in the time frame I need to (in order to secure a particular piece of wood), I'll have Lugzy beat. Not that that's a good thing :rolleyes:

ALL of them Monarchs...

A group photo IS in order. I'll need to finish unpacking all of the boxes before I will have time, but the basses were THE very first things moved in. My son and I personally loaded them on the moving truck as the last things on and took them off first. It's only 3 miles between the 2 houses...so their time away from the family was short.
