Why not get one on the top and one on the back for twice as many gigs?
I was fortunate enough to own AJ's Presentation #9 around 2003.
Got to see AJ playing #10 at Catalina's with Michel Camilo in '05 and he was kind enough to sign #9 for me. Thanks to the guys at The Groove Shoppe, #9 found a new home later that year.
That bass, and an interest the in design of archtop guitars (a la D'Angelico and D'Aquisto) led me to commissioning a semi-hollow AJ Hybrid at the beginning of 2008. After several twist and turns, along with some important design changes, my bass is actually in production:
With any luck, it should be ready at the end of March, when I plan to visit the shop. Hope to post more pics as the build progresses...

Just curious, does anyone know what kind of finish is on my Fodera? I know it says on their website "At your option, you can apply a very light coating of clear wax (we use MINWAX Paste Finishing Wax). Rub on a small amount with a clean, soft dry cloth and then wipe it away with a different clean, soft, dry cloth." Does this mean if the finish were to ever wear off on my bass, all I have to do is apply some of this wax back on? If it helps, I have a 2010 Monarch 5, Chilean lauren burl top with a walnut body.
If you want an instrument named for Anthony you must follow his spec. Look at his current instrument and you will know what that includes. http://www.fodera.com/Main/BassModels.aspx?SeriesID=9
However you can order a bass that "looks" like his bass with pickups and whatnot but Fodera will consider it a custom instrument not an AJ bass. As far as I know.
Ah you're right. You can still order an AJ6 double cut like he had in the 80's. "Anthony Jackson Contrabass". I originally had that model on order until I learned you could order a custom bass with the presentation body shape.

I was reading another thread on TB that was addressing the differences between neck-through and bolt-on basses. Most of the contributors had owned one or more of each type and were comparing these. However, they were not identical basses otherwise so there were a lot of factors that would mask the NT vs BO contributions to the differences. Since Fodera makes both of these (as well as dovetail), would you mind sharing your insights on this? What do you tell people who are ordering a custom bass and trying to make a decision which way to go? It would be great to hear about this from you, since you see many of the same model, possibly with the same wood combinations, in both BO and NT implementations and have a dozen of your own Foderas to boot.
