Indeed!! After I take delivery of my bass this fall I wanted to make a thread titled, "How I paid for a Fodera making less than 30k a year". Most people I have spoken with have a defeatist attitude about owning an instrument at that price point. Not sure if it would help anyone as most peoples financial live differ. But the point is to maintain a goal and stick with it no matter how many movies you miss that year...or years..lol

Hi Guy's,

It always struck me that every Fodera owner has a story to tell regarding how they acquired their first (and in many cases, only) Fodera Bass, hopefully by honest means..:rolleyes:

I couldn't help but feel that such a comment might either serve to deflate those who are on the path to securing the means or make those with the ability to acquire at the drop of a hat feel guilty. I believe the vast majority of owners have worked hard and sacrificed to achieve their dream, so I felt a little duty bound to highlight the fact. Anyway, I really wasn't having a go at cnltb, I just wanted to make him aware there would be some strength of feeling about the issue.

Some of these basses are stunning. Very cool thread...I often check in even though I don't own one.

However, Im guessing the doctor/lawyer comment was just a little joke?

I'm far from a pro musician, but I am (almost) a lawyer in the UK, and I wouldn't see how it would be a problem for someone who is a part time musician and collector to buy an expensive bass purely because it is 'their thing' that they collect. I'm pretty sure the majority of guys normally collect or invest in cars/vehicles, and to be honest, investing in instruments is probably easier!

I would love to play music as a profession, but for me, the stress relief and fun it creates would merge with the need to earn and be on top of the game and turn it into something I wouldn't be comfortable with.

I am 26 and recently bought my first (emperor 5). I agree with all of the recent budgeting comments. In my case, I don't gig to often but am passionate about music and bass playing, and had always wanted a fodera. I had generally been spending about 2k a year for the last few years on new music instrument purchases, but I tend to prefer to play/become attached to one primary instrument. Because of this, I decided to sell off my other instruments, and pool te money towards one.

Although it taught me what dimensions, measurements, woods, pickups, etc I preferred, I was sick o constantly buying and selling basses, so I decided to just go for it. I'm very happy with my decision!

For me, fodera made perfect sense. I don't want to have 2 or 3 basses floating around, and have the financial means to keep any money invested in gear as "gear only" money, so pooling it towards a Brooklyn born beauty was only right!

Just wanted to throw a kudo out for Fodera strings. I put a set on a Lakland 5-string that I have been struggling with, and hadn't picked up in months. The Fodera steels felt fantastic; the perfect tension accross all strings, including a B that is in the La Bella range for strength. I did a quick listen, then decided to go with that bass on a gig in Philly last Friday. From the sounds of the board mix that we got (with zero amp eq, and just a little pre tweaking song to song), I am totally sold. These are the strings for this bass.

sigh.

A Mike Pope pre in one bass, and Fodera strings on another, is as close as I will come to a Fodera...until such time as I choose to touch one: I know if I ever let that happen, I might go all "nostatic" on my bass inventory. :)

I was 22 when I got my first Fodera. An Monarch Deluxe 4 ala VW model. I was so proud :) Since then I have sold the Monarch and got Emperor Elite 4 and Emperor Elite 5! Almost 30 now and I want a MG so bad :)

By the way! I recorded this album with my Emperor 5 only 10 days after I got it. You can download the album for free :) So take you chance
