Fodera Club Part XII

Danny,

It looks custom shop Pope preamp to me. The pick up is Fodera or Duncan to my eyes but Jason will know correctly. You may be lucky guy if you grab this one.

Oh it could definitely be cool! I love the blended sound on my Lakland! If I could have it and the volume and potential phase issues (if there are any??) could be ironed out I would be very interested...

Hi gang...a consolidated answer post!

1. Yes, the YYD at Bass San Diego IS the one that I alluded to in my post to nostatic. It is 17.5mm spacing and is the very first of the limited edition YYD's...#1 of 6 in the first year that we are officially doing that. It's also the only narrow spaced YYD we've ever made...

2. We absolutely can do a P at the neck and a dual coil at the bridge. It requires an extra buffer board in the preamp so that we can match output impedances (assuming you went with an EMG and Duncan), but it can definitely be done. I have no personal experience with a bass configured this way, but there's no reason that it shouldn't work!

3. The preamp that was shown is the Fodera / Pope Custom Shop Preamp and those are Duncans inside it. The way to tell the difference between Duncans and Aeros (aside from the very obvious tonal defference) is that the Aero wires are exposed braided red, green and white while the Duncans are covered in black casing. Just to make things a little more complicated, our own Fodera Dual Coils look exactly the same as Duncans (wire-wise).

I think that I covered everything.

or get someone to build a passive p-bass pickup a la nordstrand or watson.

is it the split sound of the p that people like or the magnet profile/configuration?

Juan Alderete (Mars Volta, Bir Sir, Vato Negro, Racer X) has a 70s P bass that has a nordstrand dual coil in the bridge and it sounds killer.

Here's a video of his set-up, the bass comes in about 17 min in.

I always thought the Fender Am Dlx P-Bass that had the P pickup and the big dual coil in the bridge sounded cool. I couldn't ever get one to sound like a P-Bass though, not even with just the P pup solo'd. I guess it had something to do with the extra pup, even when not on, effected the tone.

I have a question on the YYS and monarchs... The screw that adjusts the saddle height.. is that the same size screw that adjusts the string spacing?

Because for me its smaller gauge ... And when adjusting the string spacing its just a loosen and tighten screw right?

I dont understand how all my bridge hardware/screws is already really rusted and stuff.. Bass is always kept in cool environment... :(

i suppose, but that's why i'm asking.

i like the sound of p coils, but don't like the split thing so much. probably cause the harmonics and what have you sound different due to hearing the strings a different distances from the bridge.

see the pic i posted earlier. p coils in the first two rows, j coil in the third.

far as i know, the actual layout of the pickup coils is dfferent between the jazz and p.

Looks like someone was messin' around in here. These do not look like factory connections? I wonder what was changed here??? The EMG'S have no identification except a 11 ce. I believe this is the older Fodera/Pope pre. What do you think- New electronics upgrade in order.

Yes, it is the same sized Allen key for both adjustments. If your bridge is corroding it is likely due to one of two reasons...

1. Not wiping off any sweat after you play it.
2. Keeping the instrument in a high humidity environment. Temperature has very little to do with corrosion, humidity and contact with the acidity in a person's sweat is far more important...
