AMAZING. I almost ordered one of mine with a solid black ebony top like this, as I have another bass like that. Love it.

Actually they've done a bunch like that- there was an Emperor 4 string recently, and I've seen a couple Monarch 4s like that. Looks really cool. EDIT: Ooops, Steubig got there first (by a lot). Hadn't refreshed browser.

For what it's worth, both of my basses have tops/backs with katalox, which is for all intents and purposes the same as ebony, and they both are in the 11.5lb range. My Zon with walnut body/ebony plate/bubinga top weighs 1.5-2lbs more than either of the Foderas. The Foderas don't feel very heavy comparatively at all.

If you like the look and the sound, you live with the weight.

87/88 on my emporer with the ebony headstock. also was the first deluxe emporer as back then they only came neck thru...

Wow, thank goodness I have no tonal prefs in that weight range. That'd be a big problem for me.

I'd prefer to play an 8lb bass like my Zon 5, but with a strong back and (mainly) a really good strap, you barely notice the difference standing.

I just weighed the Imperial/MG5, and it's only 10.8lbs. Not bad for a maple body and ash/ebony neck.

I loved the Imperial, it’s an awesome bass, great tone, beautiful and great wood combination, but I didn’t get used to the body shape. I much prefer the Emperor or the Monarch style (double cut). As to the tone; the Imperial had a beautiful deep lows, clear high sound, but I wanted a bass that was even tone across, with a little punchier lows. I love the B in this bass it has a growly punch.

Well, on the other hand, except for a composite neck bass, which is a special case, I also do NOT want a "balsa" bass. I generally try to target 9 pounds, which literally gets me everything I want... especially noting I have pretty specific tastes in wood combos.

Proven formula for me. Sticking with it. :)

Anytime man ;) i wish i could change my username to fodera kid. That would be more accurate.

It is a nice look. I wasnt sure how i felt about it in production but finished with it all together i loved it. I havent seen many of these myself. Although there is a ash bodied/necked imperial for sale on out website with a darker wood headplate ;)

Only 5-6 long months to go. Thanks to all of you for being so open and informative here. Between you all and Jason's willingness to be patient and helpful I arrived at these spec's. I know I could have spent too much of Jason's day asking questions, but because of this forum, he was spared;)
