Fodera Club Part XIX

I am away from the shop until Thursday so I cannot ask Vinny, but the inlay sure looks like Vin's work. If you cannot wait for an answer until Thursday, email us at the shop!

According to the listing, he did the inlays.


Custom Inlays: All Inlay work was done by Vinny Fodera, the design is supposed to be "Flying V Space opera" It was made coincident with the first Shuttle launch which occured in 1981.

Some standard touch ups a 14 year old would need. A couple mods to the old pre, a little finish touch up, the new and improved truss rod, a stick on ebony ramp, and some minor fret work. I can't wait to get her back!

I'm the original owner from 2000, so it's time to take good digital pics. Ill post up on the top when I get it done. By the way: spalted maple burl, 36" scale, 2" thick alder body, dual coil Duncans. Joey took one look and went , "Wow! I remember this one." Cool...

Depends on your goals and the particular instrument. For instance My YYD is rather hot compared to the MGS. If I want to have active and passive volumes somewhat balanced then the preamp is dialed way back on the YYD, somewhat back on the MGS. If I crank the MGS it doesn't get as loud as the YYD even backed off.

Quick and easy experiment - mess around and figure out what sounds best with your amp. My other bass is a Rob Allen which is fairly hot piezo output, so I tend to crank the preamp on the Foderas so they are in the ballpark when I swap on stage.

right on, yeah it's an imperial elite so i'm assuming it's the same as your YYD, and yeah it's extremely hot. I'm not so worried about blending the passive to active tone, I like to do a bit of thumping and stuff and don't want to kill my tone by cutting too far back, if that makes sense. Gotta say being new to fodera basses, I pretty much find a new usable tone every day=)

after two days with my "new" Emperor fretless.... all I can say - WOW - it was sooo worth the risk - the Bass sings till tomorrow....

What strings are you guys who play fretless using ?? Steel is not that good for the fretboard, right ???

I have put some D'addario EXL's on it (nickelplated steel) - I don't like Nickel strings.... Stuart is using Flats if I remember correctly ?!

Well I took my 3.5 month old E5S in to my favourite luthier last night for a full setup (lower action, restrung and set up for Eb). I found out he is super busy and my bass won't be ready for AT LEAST A WEEK!:bawl:

I know I am whining, but because the E5S is getting all of my playing time (and I ordered a Fodera Custom), I basically sold everything else! In any case, reacquainting myself with my '73 Jazz and '74 P won't suck, but I miss my Fodera already.:crying::D

Interesting that you grab for the Fenders once the Fodera is in the shop; my Fender P is the bass that my Sadowsky Standard *didnt* knock out of the rotation.
