Wow! Never seen that used as either a top wood or a fingerboard. How would you describe the tone?

Sorry, I wasn't ignoring your advice, I hear you loud & clear. I've used it in the past on my SmithBT4 and it works great, but I bought all my cleaning essentials (butchers wax, Danish oil ", fine steel wool etc)when I bought the bass some 27 years ago in NY and I've used up the linseed oil on home DIY projects. So when Jason said he used a Fender branded product I figured it would be safe and easily available, plus you can't argue with someone who's used it religiously for years on "12" high-end basses..

Again, might I suggest boiled linseed oil? It can be found at pretty much any hardware store, and it does a great job. Michael Tobias got me hip to using it.

Chris, many congrats that's one fine bass. If I'm correct this bass was on show last weekend at the London Bass Guitar Show.
I spotted it and couldn't resist having a play.. Yeah! It's heavy alright, but such a joy to play with a beautiful passive tone, Active = lots to play with. The price tag was "ridiculous," but I couldn't pull the trigger. There were a few other Fodera basses at this stand: 2xMonarch 4's and an E5S. The ES5, is 1st class and I've got to say, if I were going to buy a touring Fodera 5, that would be the boy. The Fodera' were in good company, there were Skolds, ACG's & Ritter's. Mr Jens Ritter was meeting and greeting at the stand while I played your bass, but I didn't have the slightest want to play anything else afterwards. I really had to walk away and convince myself that my current two were more than enough.

Sir, you've got a great bass & your going to love it..

No worries, your welcome. Just make sure you get an equally good strap. Trying not to plug em, but I brought my Moody' 4" strap with me and that's what I used. After playing your new5 I went home rethinking wood selection and Mahogany is now in mind. Chambering is an obvious option, but I suspect playing with the body mass to achieve a lighter weight might result in under achieving in tone where Mahogany's concerned?

Plus, mineral oil is petroleum based...don't really want to soak that into your system.

I am very surprise how a the tone is so clear from the low ends to the hights...
And all in perfect balance.

Well..... my day has come. I was offered a deal I couldn't refuse and had to jump on it. This baby is coming back to the US from the UK... I can hardly contain myself and I can't wait to get it in my hands.

i've asked this question before and what i've kind of put together is that it's somewhere between rosewood and maple.

Well..... my day has come. I was offered a deal I couldn't refuse and had to jump on it. This baby is coming back to the US from the UK... I can hardly contain myself and I can't wait to get it in my hands.

Congrats, Chris.... hope it works out. 11 lb. isn't so bad if it's balanced. I use a $40 Levy's Leather strap with my basses and even the heaviest work out fine. My AJC might be around that weight. I notice the 36" scale, not the weight.

What's the scale length?

yup, there's that money thing again... if you do get out there, go to Mumm winery to try out the champagnes. And actually, all the band guys out there will tell you about and probably take you to all the cool wine hangs anyway!

It's 34". I had emailed about it.

Slightly unusual Fodera between the woods, scale, bolt on, and double cut AJ shape. What a win on that one someone cooked up.

The original owner is obviously a very good player.
