I know this question is being answer already but, I couldn't find it. What is the benefit or the difference between the Regular B to an Extended B in the headstock?

I don't feel like getting roasted in this forum, so I won't post why.

Lots of info on the web about extended b headstocks and a bit on TB (harder to find as you can't search for "B").

Hi guys,
I play an F-bass 34 1/2" scale BN6 and was wondering if the AJ exposed core 6 string set would be a good match for my bass. My main concerns would be the Hipshot style bridge and the length of the strings, my bass is not a "string through" body. thanks.

Wasn't there something about being able to place the A tuner at the same distance from the nut as it would be on a fender,when making a 6 string instrument?
If that indeed is the thinking behind it, I wonder...why not just have a 5 in line headstock, plus the B on the other side
(or something on those lines).
I think that might look a lot better to me than the head as it is at present.

Spot on. From Mr. Pope:

Originally an experiment conceived by a bass player named Mike Frost and first implemented on the Edward Bass (I'm almost sure). I had the idea separately from Mike Frost because I wanted to have my headstock laid out so that the non speaking lengths of the E, A, and D were identical to a J bass. So I thought of putting the B out at the end of the headstock. I think the first drawings including that feature were of my headstock. I hope I remember that right. The extra tension thing was not on my mind.

I am staying out of the weight thing too.

I don't want to receive my custom build next year with the body looking like swiss cheese.... but only 6.9lbs.

I must say in all seriousness, a 10lb Fodera does balance well and plays like a much lighter bass.... My E5S is a great example of this. Fairly heavy, but a dream to play a 4hr gig with.

I am expecting my custom walnut/mahogony Monarch to be in the 9-10lb range, which is cool with me.

I don't know if you would be able to wind the B string without the outer rap making contact with the peg. That would be my only concern.

What stinks is I just changed a set out and would have been happy to send the old set to you to give it a try.
