I absolutely agree with you. The Emperor II is my absolute favorite Fodera design.

But I went with the Imperial for my custom. The reason is that I am a very small person, 5'6" and the smallest hands of any male I've ever met. Jason told me that the Emperor II is the largest body that they make, and might not be best for me. The smallest body is the Monarch, and the second smallest is the Imperial Matt Garrison Shape, which is what I went with. If you want a small single cut, the MG Imperial shape is the way to go. Perhaps that's why so many pick that shape. One day, despite my small size, I'll have an Emperor II, though!

My guess would be vol/vol.

I'm not a small guy, but I love a smaller body and the artist wife strongly prefers Monarch to any single-cut. I ended up going Monarch in part due to a kinda silly reason - I like to be able to carry an instrument by the upper horn when maneuvering on/off stage, etc. Single cut isn't a complete pita, but I'm set in my ways. The Rob Allen is ok as it is a much shorter/lighter bass.

Little details...but that's why I pay the big bucks for the instruments...to get those addressed.

Figured that.

Not maple (except the neck) but my E5S's body has a satin-ish finish that is just amazing. I have owned 100 basses or so, and The finish on my Fodera is very unique and unlike any other bass I have ever owned.

I love maple boards. In my experience, and I'm sure many will disagree, I find that birdseye maple and hard maple sound different. Also, I actually prefer the Fender style of a heavy lacquer gloss finish on the board for tone, though I do prefer the feel of the satin finish for feel. I know many will say they hear no difference between the maple boards(birdseye/hard) and gloss/satin but I do.

I THINK I prefer the sound of a Fender heavy gloss board (as far as maple goes) but it just might be the fact that I am so used to my 1973 maple neck Jazz.:D I don't tend to notice the "feel" of a fretboard though.

I think I will be happy with my pau ferro E5Sand current build with ebony, so maple is a non issue!:bassist::hyper:

My principal concern for the buding of my Imperial, is how sounds one kind of fingerboard with one kind of body wood....

I like very much Maple fingerboard with ash.
But no idea how sound a maple FB with an alder body for exemple...
