Hi Everyone

Even though I'm posting in the Fodera Club for the first time, I'm an avid follower of its posts - all XX parts of them. Yes indeed, I have read every post made here from the beginning to now. In the process I've learned an enormous amount and in a weird way following the fortunes of those on this forum have made me feel almost like part of this community. The passion of the people who post here, not to mention the VERY impressive input and responses from Jason at Fodera have been truly infectious.

It's got to the point where I simply have to try out a Fodera to see for myself what is driving this passion. The problem is, I'm at the opposite end of the world from most of those who do post here, so I emailed Jason to find out if he could put me in touch with any Fodera owners in South Africa. True to form, I got a reply within half a day! Don't ask me when he sleeps - there's quite a difference in time zones between Cape Town and NY.

Anyway, he confirmed that there are indeed Fodera owners in South Africa but that he couldn't divulge owner's particulars for privacy reasons. I realize he's right. Trouble is, in all the years that I've been gigging (and we're talking many decades), I haven't met a single person in the country with one - and I've done a fair bit of touring during this time.

In his reply, Jason did however suggest that I post on this forum in the hope that a Fodera owner in South Africa will see this and be prepared to contact me. Is there anyone out there in or around Cape Town, that would be greatly appreciated.

Once again Jason, thank you for taking the time and trouble to respond to my initial email so quickly. All I can say is that if this is the way you respond to non Fodera-toting strangers right out of the blue and from the opposite end of the earth, I can only imagine what the actual Fodera customer service experience must be like.

As I said to Jason, I somehow feel destined to own a Fodera one day, even if it means being drawn to NY to pick it up in person. To the rest of the Fodera family who post on Talkbass, just know that your passion does not go unnoticed even in the furthest of places. Keep rocking

Just curious, to all the Fodera owners, what did yall do to pass time by as y'all waited for your basses?

Lottery tickets. I pray and buy lots of lottery tickets.

Also, I beg Jason to take my Burgundy wine in lieu of cash.

Seriously, I just locked in my Monarch Deluxe 5 last week and the next 6 months shall suck. I am still loving my Emperor 5 Standard, so I will be happily playing a great bass until my Monarch shows up.

I'd almost rather be in the waiting game than in my current position. I have just about enough for a deposit with a little extra, but being a full time musician, having several thousand dollars saved up is a blessing that almost never happens. Especially when you live alone in NYC. I had a tour fall apart this past January and I had overspent myself expecting work only to lose thousands. I still haven't fully bounced back. So seeing those numbers in my account and dreaming of my next Imperial 5 build literally tears at the fabric of my soul when I know it has to go to other things!!! AHHHH being an adult sucksssss!!!! haha

Man, I feel your pain! I have been VERY, VERY fortunate that finances have worked out for me and allowed me to have two Foderas. This past spring, only a few months ago, things were looking potentially VERY bleak in terms of employment, and not only would my second Fodera been at risk, but my lifestyle (which, outside of the Foderas and other musical instruments) is VERY conservative, would have been in the dumper, too.

My sincere sympathies with your situation. Nothing like getting hit with unexpected bills, or, equally, unexpected lack of income...

I hear ya! I read your post about how you got messed up by the UK customs, was that the tour that never happened?

that's the funniest part. I'm sad that I have all this extra money cause I CAN'T blow it on a bass haha....only bass players could understand!

And yes, that was my UK tour with my band that fell apart after we were refused entry into London....I'm not even sure if we can go back now!

Sure they'll let you in...unless you slugged a couple of officials before being shown the door!! After a 6hr flight followed by hours of bureaucratic questioning, I'ts easy to lose your rag. Pity you didn't come when they we're on strike..

thanks. yeah just glad it's over with. was more blown away by all the anti-american attitudes we were getting hit with. Definitely wasn't expecting that! We weren't even making any money there, as we had already been paid in US dollars months earlier....just make sure you know the rules before you travel abroad!!

I'm glad my misery could entertain you. Hopefully you'll fall victim to losing thousands of dollars of work so you can have a story to entertain me!

And maybe all that would be standard if you don't have your paperwork together, but there's no way the US would send you home for just showing up with a guitar claiming you "came to jam with some friends for fun without getting paid".
