I'm very familiar with the NYC line of instruments and their provenance. As I said, the headstock on this instrument looks mangled and sloppily cut, thus my question as to whether or not it might be a knock off or copy.

I was imagining to have Fodera at one point.
Actually wasn't even aware that I bought one until I got it in my hands!
I picked up my bass in Chicago I stayed at my uncles house without amp for 2 weeks, so I was noodling without amp... went to store one day to "try out the amps" (to see how my bass sounds).
it was kind of fun... and kind of stressful
