What has happened is sth. that I would have guessed that would never be possible to happen.... I'm really sorry for you .... I mean if your Band would be a strange looking Band from Afghanistan or Pakistan ;) I could have understood it but a band from the US....

yeah it was pretty strange. We were the only Americans there the entire day that got detained, and we sat in this big jail cell filled with all these african and middle eastern dudes seeking asylum. It was quite an experience. Especially in a room kept just 3 degrees above uncomfortable where 90% of the people in the room have never heard of deodorant! haha

Eeew! I guess UK border force wouldn't have borhered if you had split up as individuals but because you came as a band they seized the opportunity to make a point, and a weak one at that. I think the majority of folks who go out to see a live band want to see something a little different (preferably not home grown) representing what they do best; that's the biggest load of BS I've heard about taking work away from british musicians. I wouldn't pay to see a bunch of British dudes parody a Brooklyn joint, I want the real thing..

haha well the UK TSA people seem to disagree. The worst part was THAT day we were playing a couple's wedding which was paying for the majority of our trip expenses, flights, hotels, transportation, backline, (drinking), and all our other gigs booked there were just pure profit. So Not only did we lose all that money, but we ruined this couple's wedding!:atoz: they had to hire some crap band at the last minute and stress out over it....

Isn't it equally hard to get into the US at times?
I've heard stories resembling yours to that effect.:)

We sat in a jail cell for 10 hours! Then were individually questioned in separate little rooms and ultimately sent back home. But we were all fingerprinted, pictures taken, and in the system we go. Sure, I could come back anytime as a tourist, but if I happen to have a bass with me I'm looking at big problems.

The big issue was playing semantics over the word "work". According to them, since I'm a musician by profession, just showing up in another country with an instrument and playing it for fun (no money involved) is considered "work" and they have the right to deport me. BS. Be careful out there fellas!

I must ad that if I as an European bass player had showed up at an American airport with a bass on my back and said that I was going to work I would be on the next plane back. You will need a work permit either way.

Very possible, but I live in the US so I wouldn't really know. From what I've seen standing in lines, people usually fly through unless they've shown up with everything they own....

That's the catch though. If you're on vacation with your bass, are you "working"? If so, then yes you probably need some kind of Visa, but I can assure you if you just came on vacation with an instrument and some friends wanted to jam at some bar, the US government would not come looking for you....which is the opposite of what the British TSA people were telling us. Look, my band had ZERO documentation on us. They had every right to turn us away, but this was our 5th time in the UK, and every time we'd come through customs we'd say we were here for a few shows and they'd say, "have a great time guys!" For whatever reason, perhaps this new law, maybe this dude just found out his wife was cheating on him and wanted to make somebody miserable haha....who knows. But I travel all over the world fairly often with bands, and I had never run into a situation like this before.

I need some advice; I have a 34" scale Monarch. I want to get some stainless steel Fodera strings with the .125 B string. I am not sure how a 34’ scale would sound between the tapper and non tapper B string. I would like to get some feedbacks.

I generally prefer non-taper regardless of scale, FWIW.

I used .130 tapered / non-tapered Fodera nickels on Fodera-ish Warmoth bass and I much prefer the taper. I experimented with the .125 taper nickel once and while it wasn't bad, I felt the .130 was just better.

I haven't tried the fodera tapered strings, but from past experiments with other brands I feel that tapered strings roll on the right hand fingers when digging in. I just felt that they were slowing down fast runs.

I find that but with stainless steel, so I switched to nickel. I love Taper core strings, if I had a choice I'd go with an all tapered nickel set. I find they produce (depending on the brand) more harmonic overtones which suits my taste. Maybe oneday Fodera will produce a small run of AJ's custom strings but in a lighter gauge..Please:D
