I saw The Allman Brothers last night and was excited to see/hear Oteil's 6 string Fodera bass. For whatever, reason, he only played it on one song and rode his Fender p/j 4 string the rest of the night. Oh well...it did sound good on the one song he used it for....
Sure was a beautiful bass!

In theory, that would be the way to go. However, I've played a number of NYC Foderas over the years and they did NOT do it for me. IMO, they don't come close to the sound and playability of the custom models. I know that's the point, but still....
So we had a first for me wrt lineup - violin, keys, bass, bass. It ended up being a ton of fun - it helps when you have great players who are willing to take some risks. Stuebig was killing it on bass. So much so that I hopped on cajon for some of the tunes and on this one also let the looper do the work.

It was pretty funny because at the beginning of the night we had three fretless instruments and keys. And between violin and the two basses we probably had about two dozen or more pedals on the floor.
and eight different ideas of intonation, but that's okay, it was 10 by the end of the night.

It was certainly worth the risk that night. Great music, thx for posting. Oh, yeah, and great tone, too.
I currently have an ash with alder tone block body, with buckeye top bass. I am thinking about adding a Tiger Maple or Curly Walnut back to it for tonal purposes. Does anybody think this is a good idea, or should I just leave the bass alone?

Beware of additional weight unless you can take it. I max at 10.5 with comfort.
I have a similar spec on the way, ash with alder block. Best wishes with it.
I think a back cap would be mostly an aesthetic benefit. IMO, the least amount of glue the better tone wise. It would also be reducing the amount of ash and alder, which are classic tone woods. I vote no to the maple back.
their tops and backs are relatively thin in relation to the body and therefor probably would have a negligible influence on tone

My Imperial 6 has the same body woods and it's killer. $500 will buy you a lot of Fodera strings to keep your bass sounding just like new.
Till this day, I dont know how to describe the tone of Brazilian Rosewood. I even played Jasons Monarch that had Brazilian Rosewood, and all I can remember is that it sounded amazing.
