Fodera Club Part XXV

I've said it before. The coil tap switch Joey put in my Imp II was like have 4 separate single coils, two inner or two outer. The spacial difference between the coils on each SD pickup is enough to obtain different tonal characteristics from each one. One of these days I'm going to send my Emperor back to be retrofitted with the switch.

That's a great solution. I played with that on my imperial, pretty cool.

You can always get the 1969 (Matt Garrison) spacing.

Funny, this had me scratching my head as well :)

I have tried many different pickup positions and I just keep coming back to the 60's position.

But almost as important as the spacing seems to be the pickup type... dual coils with a coil tap switch just never seemed to do it for me to get a single coil tone. I'm not sure why but just never got aggressive or responsive enough for me, to polite sounding.

My build will have Duncan single could jazz pickups in 60's location. I am hoping it will be a perfect fit for me:bassist:

So, it's a 3-way switch? Approx how much $$ to fit?

I got a couple sets of fodera strings for my ES5, 45-130T stainless and 45-125 nickel. I've got the stainless strings on and they sound great other than the E string, which sounds much less bright and has shorter sustain. It reminds me of the nontapered labella hard rockin steel 105E ... almost flatwound like.

If that's just the way the 105 nontapered steel is, does fodera offer a tapered E? The tapered B sounds like a grand piano!

If its a dead string, can I order a replacement single?

I submitted this question through the website as well, but figure its buried in the "we're at NAMM" queue. And yes, I followed the string bending instructions.

Sorry for a switch on subjects, but how do y'all's Emporers balance?

I was hoping for a Monarch 6 Standard, as the P shape has always worked and balanced well for me, but I'm eyeing the new Emperor Standard 6. The problem is, I've never played a Jazz bass that didn't have crazy neck dive. It's especially bad when seated, I believe because the fulcrum point is moved towards the bridge for the offset style.

My Monarch balances PERFECTLY when seated or standing. I can just take my hands off the bass and it sits perfectly still and I believe that this is one of the main reasons playability is so fantastic.

Man.....can't wait until I am able to purchase a Fodera.

Until that day maybe someone here can help with my curiosity. I've seen the Fodera / HAZ Circuit on older instruments, but what do all of the knobs/switches do?

Mine balances perfectly. Your forearm and chest contact on the upper bout provide more than enough force to hold the neck where it is.

That is odd. I got a set of 105-45 steel strings in the mail last week and the E-string was dead on that set as well. The nickel set in the same shipment for my emperor 5 was the best ever. I followed the instructions as well. (Played bass for 28 years and learned it in the end.)

I had a faulty Fodera G-string (nickel) a year or two ago, had to mail back the string so that they would mail a replacement.

This sounds like a bad string. Please send us an email directly to:

For whatever reason, we have not received your inquiry.

Kindest regards,

Jason

Again, with any situations like this, please email us at:

We can definitely send out replacement strings BEFORE we get back the defective string. But the reason that we want the bad string back is to see exactly what happened.

Fairly often when a round core string sounds dead it is because the string was not bent properly before being cut. This can create a situation (with round core strings), where the outer wraps come loose from the core wire. You can tell this has happened if you see the core wire jutting out of the outer wraps where you just cut.

Kindest regards,

Jason

But, the control layout is different, and that makes me think, and it seems I don't like to do that. FWIW, I like the EMP layout.

+1, but I prefer the Monarch layout. Going between Monarch and Emperor made my head hurt. Going between Monarch and Std is easier for some reason, maybe because they are "more different."

Or I just don't like to think...
