Thanks for the replies guys!

I'm not that worried about weight. My main bass is 9 lbs and it's perfect for me. My Bongo 6 is about 10.5 pounds and I never have any trouble with the weight, just the balance. Whether a bass can balance without having to put pressure on it with my right arm or hold it up with my left is a huge deal however.

They did it to save money/production time so they could offer the Standard line at a lower price point.

Interesting. I guess I never realized what work went into a tilted headstock. I would love to try one of the Standards, but have to make sure I have funds in my bank because I know I'll wanna walk out with it!

I don't recall what the up-charge was. Jason could shed some light on that.

I just noticed that they were one piece necks...that makes more sense to me!! For a long time, I thought they were 3 piece neck!

...for the sake of my sanity and bank account I still need to resist trying one for a little while!

I agree. The only things, and this is super picky, is I'd like an ebony fingerboard and black hardware.

Black hardware should be an available option. Ebony fingerboard though - likely have to go custom.

There are multiple standards out there with black hardware. I wish I knew that when I ordered my E5S. Gold looks good but black looks better to me.

Also, the pau ferro board on my E5S looks and sounds amazing. I am definately an ebony board guy (my customs on order are both ebony) but pau ferro ain't too shabby and do it really works with the Standards IME.

I think pau ferro is an awesome, underrated fb wood. Very balanced IMO. and I know black seems to be the consensus on Fodera hardware, but I think there's something just super classy/sexy about the gold....it just screams "I'm a Fodera, bitch!" haha

I have a specific bias for ebony: I actually have a tough time seeing the side dots on a pau ferro fb. Ebony makes it much easier for me.

There are a number of reasons, but all are based on using a one piece neck billet and not wanting to do a scarf joint on it because they would be prone to cracking if the instrument ever fell and hit the peghead.

Yes, an Ebony FB is not an option. That would require going the custom route.

I once owned Monarch #12, purchased early 1984 at the old Avenue O shop. I unfortunately sold it on consignment at the Boston Daddy's Junky Music a couple years later. I'd be happy to find it again. Its a 4 string Deluxe with a crotch Black Walnut top on Mahogany body, J-J pickup setup, ebony fingerboard. If anyone knows its whereabouts please pm me, I'd like to try to buy it back.
