Mmm.. So the TKS body should be slightly smaller than a normal EII?mmm.. Hopefully there'll be vid's from Namm 2014 soon.;)

The Tommy Kennedy body is 'downsized' a bit from the standard sized Emp II. I've played Tommy's on occasion, and also one of his student's Emperor II , who ordered the smaller body size with the standard pickup placement, versus Tommy's 'stacked close to the bridge'. Zero issue with size.

The Fodera guys are really firing on all cylinders. I always loved the idea of a bolt on single cut (ala the Skjold Whaleback). You get the advantages of more body mass while being able to keep the body small, and eliminate the issue of clamping that one side of the neck all the way up to the 12th fret, which on rare occasion, can cause some issues.

Jason, what happened to the signature string sets?

What's the current equivalent of the Vic Wooten four-strung set... the light nickels?

Also, the mobile store needs some work on iPhone. I can send specific bug reports if you want...

I'm 5' 6" and play an EmpII. I play seated most of the time. Seated the balance is incredible. Without any support from my hands or body it balances on my leg at the perfect playing angle.My Imperial also balances with no support or neck dive, but at not at the exact angle for playing.
The Emp II is very comfortable and well balanced standing but a little heavy for long gigs, and the 35" scale makes it look large on me. The Imp is almost a pound lighter and 34". Standing, it balances perfectly. I favour the Imp when I need to stand.

That Tom Kennedy Standard looks AMAZING.

I wonder if there's any reason why the pickups don't have exposed poles on it...per the specs it looks to have the same Fodera dual coils that the E5S has...but the poles are covered.

Hey Steve, how could I forget our man in Mexico. You do look great seated and I imagine, it must be real comfortable balanced on the thigh; trouble is you don't see too many rock bassists play seated...image and all that stuff...:smug:

Reality check please.

I am looking for a used Fodera. My budget is $7200. Here is what is am looking for in terms of must have and " bonus nice to have". Is this doable at my budget?

Must have:

Imperial model
33 inch scale
17.5 or 16.5 spacing
Ebony fretboard
Dot or no inlays

Nice to have (preferred):

Walnut or rosewood topwood. ( Only other choice I would like is Buckeye burl)
Small frets

Doable at $7200 used? If I am patient? Lol!

Fodera is really knocking it out of the park with these standards. At first, in 2011, it was pretty cool to see a YY standard, then an Emperor 5 string.... I never thought I'd see the day that we have affordable fretlesses, 6-strings, bolt-on singlecuts, and varied tonewoods for the base models.

Given the "special" wood variants we've seen on the M4SS & E5SS, I can see the 6-string getting its own special run down the road. (I'm excited for alder body & ebony fb, if they go that route!)

With you. A ES6S with black hardware and ebony fingerboard would be perfect.

The former VW set is now the Ultralight Nickel set and the former Matt Garrison set is the 28-100 Nickel set. No change to the sets, just changed the name.

Tom often plays right over the PUP's and this prevents him from brushing the pole pieces with his fingertips and making noise. Swapping to a set of PUP covers with holes is a piece of cake...
