Been awhile since visiting here, folks. I've been hanging out over at another forum for my latest passion, drums!!
However, the discussion about the buckeye Yin Yang made me thing of this beast that I'd dearly love to get: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
The only difference for me would be to have the pickup covers match the YY pattern.

A couple of hours ago, I replaced the Fodera nickels on my Monarch 5 with a set of LaBella flats. Half an hour later, I replaced the flats with a new set of Fodera nickels. The bass did sound cool with the flats but it just lost so much. I had the itch. I scratched the itch and now I'm right back where I started, apparently, right where I want to be. I love the sound of the nickels on my Monarch.
I tried TI flats on my fretless 5 and I blew hot and cold on them. I'm thinking of trying another set on my fretless 4, as that bass really has a strong voice and I think it'll push the flats. That said, the TI flats have way more bite than I would have thought. I know steubig runs TI flats on some of his basses and digs them.
I run nickels on both the fretted basses (and have them on the fretless 4 as well) and they are my favorite.

My bass is fretted. Probably should have stated that.
If I had a number of basses, I'd most probably keep one strung with flats. But, since my main bass also happens to be my only bass, I believe nickel rounds, are definitely my sound.

I love the TI flats on my YYD and Imperial Elite 5 string. Of course, those are the only strings I've used on the basses. Still, I don't wanna change, as I like 'em so well.

The preamp is just a couple of ounces. The two 9-volt batteries are heavier.
What really adds weight to the basses is the high-mass bridge and a set of dual coils. Between those three things on a 5er or 6er I believe you are talking about 3 pounds easy...
