that being said, if you're worried about the difference between 9.9 and 10.2 pounds, a preamp could tip the scales, no?

For sure. I converted a lakland USA 5 that had a bart pre to passive and I swear the bass sounded different unplugged due to the weight change. Changed the balance a little too. If they made it passive from the factory the route would be smaller, adding back some weight.

So Amazon.ca (Canada) just started selling music gear so this morning I was bored and did a search for "Fodera" to check string prices. No strings and no Fodera bass related stuff to be found.
I did score this cool neon sign for about $30USD though. Not a purchase I would have dreamed of making, but for $30, why not? Cool for my studio.

Its funny, I sit here and I look at my paychecks, and I notice that they aren't as big as they used to be. Then I remember how much overtime I worked last year to fund my Fodera. The funny part is, that now that my bass has been paid off, my paychecks are smaller, but at the same time, I have a lot more money left over. One thing I did learn for sure, was how to budget.
Sadly I may be done buying/gassing for awhile. I was running through all these the other night and my wife said, "they all sound good, and all sound very different." I'm running an octave pedal on both boards now and that scratches my low note itch. If I want the high-C I've got it, especially in the studio, but truth be told I'm probably happiest with the 4-bangers on gigs unless I'm doing something really comp-heavy. The non-standard fretless has surprised the heck out of me. It really is a spectacular instrument. I had been swinging back to my RA whenever I had a fretless urge but this is pushing it back towards the jazz niche. I can get a wide range of tones out of the PJ setup, and they seem to have more edge than the dual coils, which helps the bass speak, at least in my hands.
it's also sad for the rest of us because we just lost a great spectator sport.

The Yin Yang is the beauty queen among the lovelies. I almost pulled the trigger on a similar spec'd Imperial but finances dictated otherwise. I hate it when money gets in the way of GAS.

That really is a versatile set up you have there! I've actually mostly gone over to 4 strings myself(with the octave pedal when necessary). What pedal are you using now?
