 um...+1. I would have the same expectations as dealing with MTD, Skjold, Ritter, Alleva, etc.:smug:

..And yes, I have dealt with others in this class, as well. Mike Tobias...always very responsive. Ken Smith, always responsive. Mike Lull, some of the best customer service I have ever seen. This week alone I sent an email to Ken Smith about something. He got back to me in a couple of hours with the answer I needed. I sent a message to Lull yesterday saying I needed a pickup height set screw for my Modern 5. They put it in the mail the same day.
That is the level of service that will keep me coming back to these guys. Others... time will tell.

Competitive business is like a totem pole. You have to work to keep your spot at or near the top. You can sometimes fall back on your good name to keep you up there but eventually that wears out. Also, the higher you climb the totem pole, the more your butt is exposed for people/competition to take shots at :D

Touche. :) And a very good point.

Well, I can only speak from my expierience with Fodera. I bought a used Monarch bolt on that had a small crack. I wasn't sure if it was a finish crack or something more severe. I sent the bass to them, and they looked it over and in about two weeks, I had received a call from Joey and an email from Martha informing me that it was just a finish crack that they could repair, although it wasn't necissary. I told them to just leave it as is, and they only charged me shipping.

I understand the frustration with waiting several years, only to be told that it will take longer, but my brief dealings with Fodera have been positive.

If I may, I think that a lot of these comments are being made by people that have never dealt with Fodera, that don't own a Fodera, and sounds like they never will. That's fine. I'm sorry to hear that some people have had bad experiences, but I can speak from personal experience, and everything has pretty much been the complete opposite of these horror stories. They have taken extremely good care of me since I was a 22 year old kid teaching at Bass Alone and found a magnificent Imperial 5 string on the wall(a customer cancellation). I told the original owner of the shop that no bass was worth that amount of money and then I played it. I fell in love immediately and lusted after it for weeks(or months) finally John sold it to me (for a ridiculously low price) and let me pay payments to him. I have since sold every other bass that I've owned and that Imperial is my one and only. Until tomorrow when my 6 string Fodera arrives!!!! This will be the only bass that I will have purchased since that Imperial, 6 years ago (maybe that's because I'm a professional musician and that's all that I can afford). I've waited 2 years and gone through all of the ups and downs but in the end it's all worth it. If you've ever played one you know. One problem could be that people aren't dealing with them directly and when you are getting your information third hand or more, there usually are some miscommunications. Thats why I do things myself, you never know how things are being conveyed between sources. By the way it's almost a year for a truly custom Fender bass. I know my student just got his.

Jep! Spec?

Will you be selling the Imperial then?

without quoting kevins long post, I think the original point is getting lost. It's not so much complaining about build time or waiting time. If it's three years then so be it. I think the real issue is when peoples orders are delayed and the wait time is ridiculous and then on top of that they start making basses in their " free time". If I had a bass delayed by x number of months because they were too busy only to find out that they're working on stuff that isn't even a priority, that's a problem.

If they were working on commissioned basses and things get delayed then ok. But don't do unneccessary stuff while I'm waiting for a seven thousand dollar bass that you're late on.

In my experience, (buying 2 Foderas), the team at Fodera leave ALOT, (if not everything), to be desired in the area of customer service and trust building.

They should be eternally greatful for the represenation of folks like Mike at the Groove Shoppe and Glenn at the Austin Bass Traders, (amongst others).

I love my basses and would consider buying again, but NEVER from Fodera direct AND after being accosted by Mike Bendy via email (for not committing to a $10k+ sale after one or two qualifying emails), probably never from there Certified Pre-Owned either.

FYI, it took me about 3-4 months to get a blank nut from Fodera, (through Glenn at ABT), so I could convert my Imperial to E-C tuning.

Who's mike bendy and why would it be his business wether you buy or not???

looks like the dude does their "certified pre owned" program on the website. theres a long thread about someone who thought they were putting their bass on consignment through said program which had some interesting if not troubling details. very interesting read. i think the thread is over in misc.

Do you happen to have a link handy?

Is this bendy fellow usually as rude as to accost people after only two e-mails have been exchanged?
Interesting

I think most of us are speaking from personal experience.

Per the above posts, you are missing the point. If there is a 3 year wait or a 5 year wait, and that is what was communicated when you put in the order, of course, no problem.

Also, based on my experience with playing many, many, many Fodera's (I'm an old friend of Tommy Kennedy's), and owning a few, IMO they are fine basses, no better or worse than any other top of the line instrument, and with just as much variability.. i.e., great ones, good ones, not so much ones, etc. Again, they are fine basses, and has nothing to do with the points that many of us are making.

This does not seem like a difficult concept to understand, but I guess it is:smug:

Interestingly, most of the complaints are from people trying to deal with them directly. As has been posted previously, most of their retailers seem to be doing a pretty good job.

Edit: Don't mean to dog on you. Your points are valid, they are just 'different points' versus the topic at hand IMO.

Hey Kevin, how you doing man? This is Jared, you remember me? I used to see you quite often in the store and was (still am) quite the Fodera fan. Are you playing around San Diego or have you since moved? Send me a PM when you get a chance.
