Fodera Monarch P

Seems as though the price issue is what irk a lot of people on here the most. I myself thought that the pricing structure was crazy high not knowing what goes into making these fine instruments. My first was a standard model and the attention to detail is what impressed me the most. Plus being hand made, I can see the number of man hours spent. When it came to getting a custom, the level of service I received was excellent. Jason was the first person I spoke to and his genuine interest in helping me even though my skill level on the instrument is nothing near the average Fodera player. Learning of how the company also values its employees and how much passion they have in producing what's inside the players head is what made me spend they money. But in the end, it puts a grin on my face every time I play my Foderas. I think they have a winner here.

Exactly! It's not that luxury cars aren't awesome -- I'm a Pedulla player who is saving/shopping around for a custom fretless, I totally get it -- it's just that a P-bass isn't a luxury car. Like if Lamborghini produced a pickup truck, who would buy it? If you could afford and wanted a Lambo, you probably want a racecar. If you wanted a pickup, you probably couldn't afford and/or don't want a Lambo.

I don't know, I'm lost in my mixed metaphors now. I forget which hobby we're talking about.
Lamborghini is a tractors manufacturer who eventually builds luxury sportscar

Just an adder : Lamborghini actually has built an ugly kind of SUV/pick-up.
What I appreciate in Fodera instruments, though I doubt I will buy one sooner or later (too expensive for me and for my skills), is that they make something different, not an expensive copy of a Fender as many high end manufacturers. That may not be the case of the Standard P, but their position can be understood.

Wonderful bass, and as the owner of Fodera posted in this thread, part of what you get for $4000 is very nice P-bass and... you get to subsidize Fodera's R&D efforts.

At the end of it all, I continually marvel at Leo Fenders Design because whether you pay $4000 to a boutique builder, $700 for a Mexican PBass, $1200 for an American Standard or buy a Peavey for $300, they all sound like Pbasses and to my ears, they sound wonderful.

There is no "Ferrari" in a Pbass, regardless whether or not it has a butterfly on the head stock. Put that pickup design in that location, 34" scale and you get the Pbass sound pretty much.

Personally, I don't believe that a pbass builds benefits from hand made vs CNC made. The computer is deadly accurate, every time. Either way, they all sound good whether hand made or machine made. At least the folks at Fodera are upfront about the cost structure. I for one, appreciate the candor.

How much is this?

I know this is a 'standard' bass, but would it be possible to have an order built for the lightest weight possible...with everything else the same? About how accurate do you think you could get? Thanks!

Of course, but without chambering I doubt we could get much lighter than 8.0 pound reliably...

Actually it is not funny at all. As someone with a degree in business from a pretty wonderful school, I have spent literally hundreds of hours of my life working with our team just to be able to build this bass at this price and we are still not 100% certain that we will be doing so profitably. There is exactly ZERO fee for the name Fodera on any of our basses. The reality is Fodera at its very best is a 10% margin business. I have written extensively on this topic here on TB. You may flat out hate our pricing, but it is what it is because it has to be in order to build instruments the way we do, where we do, with the wood and parts that we use and have them be built almost completely by hand by trained craftspeople who are also compensated fairly.

Well I'm buying one. ;)

Jason, my thanks to you and team for taking so much time to answer my questions and really work with me for a non-custom instrument build.

As I said, this Monarch-P will be my first Fodera bass, and it is the Fodera model I was waiting for.

Best,

Snaxster

Hello. I placed my order last week. Now it will take up to five months for my Monarch-P to be completed. In the meantime I'm trying to buy less and sell more. :D
