Fodera Monarch P

From [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]:

“NOTE: Hardware color can be upgraded to Black or Gold for a $150 fee.”

You guys are good! You actually answer before I get here!

The first production ones had final set up and were shipped out today. The only difference from the photo of the prototype ended up being that we used slightly larger, black knobs instead of the two, small Chrome ones in the photo...

I spent the better part of an hour this morning with one of the first production Monarch-P's -- the one that will be our shop demo. It weighed in at exactly 8.0 pounds and sounds just like the prototype...

Mine is due at the end of June and I'm very stoked for it. To me the simplicity and clarity of design for this is like a classical instrument. I was the original owner of Monarch #12 back in 1984 (which I'd still like to track down, btw) and for a long time I've been a passive P bass player. So this new offering has large significance to me and when I saw the first ads for it I jumped on right away.

I made my deposit yesterday, adding a hipshot and black hardware. They said it should be ready in June. That's speedy!

To me, this bass looks like a perfect blank canvas for potential mods; the empty preamp cavity, the non-figured top... I find myself seriously considering adding a J pickup and a suitably nice preamp.

Why wouldn't you ask about that upfront?

I would have, except what makes the Monarch-P a "standard" model is that customization is not allowed. The HW colour is flexible, the Hipshot is just using a different machine head, but adding a preamp where before there was none would count as custom work. (Plus, it's waaay more money for Fodera's builders to add extras than for me to pay someone where I live.)

I understand that but your paying big chunk of money for a bass you are going to mod. I'm a huge PJ fan and a former Fodera owner. But I think I'd opt for a custom.

Will be interested to see what you do

Yes, I understand your perspective. I think I'm getting ahead of myself a little. The likelihood I'll do anything to a beautiful minimalist bass is low--I really love that it's a Fodera that's not too flashy.
