Found out front guy is a registered sex offender.......need advice

When I was a kid I did the Sunday School and other church related things.


And ultimately the reason I drifted away from any formal "organized" "religion" things was the deviation between how Jesus would treat "situations."

As you mentioned. Just saying. I think JC would have been willing to pick up a hitch hiker.

Unfortuantley I also see the point of view some have here about being tarred with the same brush. Most of us have people who depend on us not getting black listed.

It is a poor reflection on society where we have to be so careful about merely associating with an individual like this.

There was a guy who used to do sound around here, who people found out was on it.

And that's why I don't give much credibility to all the posters going "oh, you don't know what he did."

The sex offender registry entry says what he did, and the ages of the people involved. It isn't vague. If the victim was under 16, it says that. If the victim was under 14, it says that, too.

I kinda think you already know this is bad news, OP, otherwise you wouldn't have asked. If it was something you thought really could just be minor, you would have just chatted about it with him.

If you know it's specifically child porn that got him the record OUT! I know people can change I am an addict who's been clean three years I don't judge and am in no position to but crimes against children are intolerable in my book. I have kids I anyone who supports the criminal organization of child porn is just as guilty as making it.

That traumatizes kids and family's I don't need to hear someone's explanation and attempt to mince words I would be out before I knock them out. Many child molesters repeat crimes and these crimes ruin life's of innocent and defenseless people.

It's possession of child porn, not child molestation. So, no, I don't know that anything would be mentioned about any "victims."

Speaking as a probation officer myself, why don't you call his PO and ask how he's really doing and what his terms of probation are? Reason being- he may not be able to be in certain places/gigs without a qualified chaperone. I know I'd answer any questions I could if you called me.

I guess it's not surprising that this thread keeps floating to the top given how sensitive the topic is. I see some people characterizing the guy as a molester which shows that they didn't actually read this thread (nothing new there, I know) but g4string, it made me look back at the top of thread. You acknowledge that you know very little about this situation. You say Texas is especially hard on these kinds of offenses, yet he still only got probation (which ended years ago, yes?). You can spin on this and assume the worst, but why stop with this guy? Why not assume the worst of everyone? Yes, that's a rhetorical question, but hopefully you see the point. All kinds of people do all kinds of bad things -- no way to know everything about everyone. Such is life. If you want to condemn everyone because you just assume the worst possible things about them, well, that's your right, of course, but seems like a pretty miserable existence. Boils down to whether you believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt. Sure, don't let him stay alone with your kids... but do you really think that just playing in a band with the guy is gonna somehow damage you?

could watching an old tracy lords video be possession of child porn ?

she was under 18 and made some doozies back in the day.
So if he had an old VHS copy of Tracy I Love You, then that could have been it.

Like some other folks said, sit him down, have a beer, talk about it like 2 gentlemen settling some differences.

I could care less. Wouldn't matter in the least to me. Our keyboard player spent time in the pen for something, but I don't know what.

I don't get the problem at all. It wouldn't reflect badly on me, and if it someone else thought it did it would be their problem, not mine.

Benefit of the doubt is given to people unless proven otherwise. I think one can safely assume when you've been accused and convicted of a sexual deviant crime, benefit of the doubt no longer stands.

And I'm not concerned about damage to me.
