Frasier. Greatest Sitcom Ever

TV Guide did a special a while back on the "funniest sitcoms of all time" and the winners were:
1) I Love Lucy
2) All in the Family
3) Seinfeld

I've seen 3rd Rock mentioned several times, and a +1 to that. It proved that John Lithgow can do comedy as well as all the bad guy roles he's done.

Seinfeld was just pure genus in the way they could take 4 mini stories about the 4 characters, and merge into one hilarious episode.

I would add Get Smart, and I Dream of Jeannie to the list.

I agree entirely. They realized they had taken it as far as they could and stopped while it was still funny instead of milking it for years. I can't think of a single sitcom that got better after its second year. Most just try to maintain enough mediocrity to keep people from turning off until it is crushed under the weight of its own blandness.

Oh, it was funny, all right! It was outrageously, ridiculously funny. It has storylines that no other sitcom at the time would touch. If you like off-the-wall comedy, and if you can find it on DVD or maybe cable or satellite On Demand, do check it out.

Frasier struck me as run of the mill sit com. Not bad, but nothing special.

In no particular order, I preferred Seinfeld, Married With Children, All In The Family, WKRP and early MASH.

Mash became more vaudevillian and preachy after Henry died and Trapper and Frank left. And something happened to the color. It got brighter. It quit looking like a war zone and more like a TV set. Maybe they just updated their equipment but it lost some realism. Klinger and Hot Lips started looking like they ran a tanning salon.

But even The Jeffersons was better than Frasier.

M*A*S*H didn't really hit it's stride until a few seasons in.
