Friday Weekly '88-93 G&L L5000 Roundup

I never noticed the similarities between the later L-5000s and my 1995 L-5500. Other than the different string retainer, the necks look identical.

View attachment 670493
The 5500 may have a bit more taper to arrive at the wider string spacing, but other than that they felt pretty similar to me. I would be all over an Empress L2500 with a L5500 style neck. They feel much better in my hands compared to the current 5-string neck.

This week's roundup (8/21/2015) - Glazenn found one in Tokyo! Little on the pricy side, but hey - it's in Japan. Also, upon searching through GC, it seems like their used website has an improved UI. Otherwise nothing really new this week I've seen.

This week's roundup (9/11/2015) - Same stuff as last two weeks, but there's some news on the G&L product front. Read bottom to see.

NEWS - G&L is no longer taking L-1005 orders.
RUMOR - G&L will be bringing out a 5-String LB-100 (LB-105?) later this year... A return of the G&L P5er?

This week's roundup (10/2/2015) - Same stuff for weeks now. Waiting patiently for new L5000 listings to come. I don't think anyone is interested in Mexico at all. Maybe if the seller actually bothered to string the D?

Enter G&L in the search box (keyword) and there it is.

Priced at ¥128,000, so I don't know what the ¥50,000 or ¥60,000 mean in the facebook ad...

I was able to isolate the page with it. That neck is beat to hell, and at 128K yen, I doubt it's worth it.

This week's roundup (10/16/2015) - New international (if you're in the USA that is) stuff this week, and the Mexican one missing the D is finally gone. The Irish one is back, however, it seems like it might be pending a deal...

This week's roundup (10/23/2015) - Nothing new. @Glazenn looks like he's trying to cut a deal with the Dublin bass as late as yesterday. I got all eyes on you, man. :P

Thank you. This bass is doing on me like a magnet, but I'm still uncertain about the string spacing (minor issue, I'm testing it mentally by moving apart the middle 2 strings on my SB-2 near the pickup and insert a virtual fifth string in between...) and the 'you've got enough basses, sell one before' lady here at home (major issue, though this second condition may improve with Xmas in perspective)... So, my finger is hanging on the 'Place Offer' button... and I will let you know!....
I'm also thinking - well in advance - of having the gloomy Bahama Blue body and black metal pickguard refinished to a warmer P-bass looking like Spideyjg's one below (+ maple F/B and sickle H/S):

Good luck Glazenn. Enjoy the torture of your decision. The Dublin example looks very nice.

The "lady at home" problem has been previously discussed at length here on Talkbass. Not intending any disrespect to you or yours, but I'll summarize one observation contained in those threads by reminding you of some arithmetic in prior post #231, above: 400 L-5000s made, ever; currently 3.7 billion ladies on Earth, give or take a Caitlyn Jenner or two. One group quite rare and hard to find ...

Thanks for your continued contributions to this thread.
