I don't know if it is for sale, but there is a price (ASKING 800.00, but no currency indication), though I don't know in which country nor who is behind the ad.

EDIT - Mystery solved, found on TB too: SOLD - 1992 G&L L-5000 fretless (traditional headstock)
Was in Portland, OR, last asking price was $750 before it sold.

I was the buyer. I owned that fretless one. Bought it in 2014.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum.. I'm not sure this is the right thread to post this in.. but its the main one I found about this bass. I have had an L5000 that I've been playing for about 20 years. When I bought it, the bass had already been pretty customized. I wanted to know how to determine how those changes and the pedigree of this particular bass affect it's value. I'm not sure of the year since I haven't taken the neck off. But the customizations are:

- Fretless with line inlays, dots, and side dots
- Alembic J-Bass active pickups with mid shift knob
- Fathead
- Fender hipshot bass extender
- White pickguard (I guess this must be custom since there were apparently only P basses made?)
- Previous owner was David Hungate

Any thoughts you could provide would be incredibly helpful. I'm trying to make sure my insurance is up to snuff. Thanks!

Generally, I would say that the bass has been modified so much that the value of it is shot. However, with the big name attached to it (why would David Hungate change a P to a J???), I guess anything is possible...

Other L5000s have come with white pickguards though, so that's not a thing unique to the customization.

You need to have a supporting membership to get value estimates like that technically.

"Whats it worth?" or "How much would you pay?" Threads!!!

Thank you. I'll take note of that for future posts. Yeah, I'm not sure why it was so customized for him. (I never asked!) But it is a brilliant fretless to play and the sound is incredible.
