Sure... and it couldn't possibly be the reader.

It's like the story my dad used to tell me...

If you walk down the street and meet one butthead - he's probably a butthead.

If you walk down the street and meet two buttheads - they're probably just buttheads.

If you walk down the street and almost everyone you meet is a butthead - YOU'RE the butthead.

If Jauquo had trouble communicating with me, but no one else - I'd say it was me.

...but he seems to have trouble communicating with about 80% of the folks that read his posts.

Why do some people not have the same difficulty? if they can understand him, what does that say about the others?

Based on the numbers what it says about them is they're the proverbial "exception that proves the rule"

:hmm:

Ever notice how many come into just about any thread he's posting in with baggage? I have.
:D

Well Jaquo is often quite insightfull, interesting and witty in his minimalistic, Yoda-like approach. But not always. Most of his stuff I do get, but some of if is just too much Yoda-like for the sake of being Yoda-like;)

Nothing bad about it - havent met a person who is at their 100% all the time. That`s probably until I`ll meet my future ex-wife`s mother ;)

You made a comment about giving credit to The Man--and said 'that's what this is all about.' Something like that. I don't have the desire to go back and multi-quote you.

It was a joke about the member who said we were refusing to give the White man credit. I'm pretty sure I didn't say or infer that "you" said it because IIRC you didn't.

But if you think that is what I am about, then you've misjudged me. I'm not sweating it. If that is your angle, I can totally appreciate that---and I would never claim to understand what other races and cultures have had to contend with throughout the years in order to create their music. I am studying Cuban music, and I can understand why some guys hold it so close to their hearts. The political, social and economic issues that they had to endure to create their music is intense. My intention for this thread was the history of music, nothing more, nothing less.

Like I said, people read things like they want to read them. I could go back and quote myself but what's the point?
:D

And seriously Jauqo, check out some Bartok for crying out loud.

Because he hasn't.

BTW he still didn't say "all". He also didn't mention Bartok specifically. Just saying.

Where did I take credit away from the white man?

Don't turn my posts into some thing that it's not.

And where did I say I did not like the music of Bartok? Or even mention Bartok?

Come on guys stop making things up as you go along. If you didn't understand what I clearly stated a few times over just don't respond.

Understood... but isn't it funny that some took his statement of opinion, not fact, that he thought most European music was stiff inreference to it's effect on funk into acting like he gave a dissertation. That's way more than what he said.

And the repeated indignance over what he said by so many who must be ignoring the context of what he was saying it in is a TB staple. Will people blame themselves for once again jumping to a conclusion?

Please.
:hmm:

:D

Ultimately, pretty pointless. If the person in your example was say, Albert Einstein or Stephen Hawking yes, they must be the butthead.
:hmm:

No, I'm not equating Jauqo with Einstein or Hawking, lest someone be confused about that too.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck but turns out to be a guy in a duck suit... it (still) must be a duck.
:D

And look at the people who are having trouble with his communication. They typically are at odds with his ideas and opinions. Think that's a coincidence? I don't.

Based on the numbers what it says about them is they're the proverbial "exception that proves the rule"

And the Earth is still flat... they had numbers to back it up.

But it's their right to respond and play loose and fast with the typed word. Another TB staple. And instead of admitting they got it wrong, it'll be you changed what you said.
:D

You can say the same thing a million ways. It`s just that Jaquo chose one that In my opinion wasn`t the most fortunate one.

Guilty. I did ignore the context. I still think his statement was off, but that`s not an excuse for my over-zealous approach.

I never said you did any of those things. Who's making stuff up? This isn't all about 'you.' I didn't post to prove 'you' wrong. I posted because I enjoy the topic. The only thing that I said was that you should check out Bartok. If you have, then great. I never said you didn't like him.

That's a good starting point towards understanding each other. Could you quote the parts you found problematic?

Guilty. I did ignore the context. I still think his statement was off, but that`s not an excuse for my over-zealous approach.

Cool. There's a lot of zeal in this thread.

It just occurred to me that if enough people were over-zealous it would turn the tide back to Jauqo being the problem and them having no culpability. Sweet!
:hyper:

Yes that's why the origin of things should mean something to people.

People will definitely change what has really taken place or said to make themselves feel right.

I think that falls in the category of a psychological disorder or ego, or maybe both.

Should I have sprinkled a little bit of the yesum massa mentality in there to make up for being accused of being ignorant?

Guilty. I did ignore the context. I still think his statement was off, but that`s not an excuse for my over-zealous approach.

Why ignore the context? It you hadn't you would have a better understanding of what I was saying. No matter how it was said because you would have been one of the few who got it.

What? I can't bring up a composer if Jauqo didn't mention him? This is an open forum. IF he hasn't studied Bartok, then I think it would benifit his music. If he did, then great. No big deal.

He didn't mention Bartok as being stiff. He didn't say all European music or composers were stiff. That should obviously leave the door open for those that he doesn't consider stiff.

Shouldn't it?
:D

As to this...

"And seriously Jauqo, check out some Bartok for crying out loud".

Perhaps you communicated your point poorly. You could've either asked if he'd checked any out or prefaced it by saying "If you haven't already...".

Since communication skills is now on the table.

BTW I was listening to Bartok in grade school... I stll understood what Jauqo meant.

Relax, I was just trying to make a joke.
