I think It's safe to say, Mu-tron = Boosty. So if you hear that envelope funk, and Boosty name is on the credits, then he probably played Bass on it.

Yes Sir. I've been in a un-funky type of vibe for the past 1 1/2 year, haven't really played my Bass seriously for about the same amount of time. But I'm still funky.

back in those days Rodney Curtis was playing fretted SD Curlee basses that had dual P pickups. What gave that bass its unique sound is you can switch the pickups to parallel mode instead of series. It sounds like he's using the bridge pickup with a little bit of neck pickup blended in. That tone can be heard on Groovalliegance, Motor Booty Affair, and I'll Be With You
