Agreed, but I don't think the bass in that video is either of those. It has a pointy 2x2 headstock and the body is neither MM nor Fender. Sounds like a Stingray though.

I think this statement has merit. Funk isn’t just one thing. It is in many things. In fact, it’s a thang.
Absolutely... Therefore, all things said and done, in the big scheme of things, Vulfpeck are undoubtedly really really talented but just not that funky......

Umm, maybe. I really like it despite kinda wanting to hate it because it’s basically frat dork funk. It’s popular though. They did 14,000 people at MSG while not playing to backing tracks with a gillion blinking lights. I can always appreciate that when there’s arguably more disposable/built in the box music than ever.
I prefer my funk slower and sloppier. If it don't make you crinkle your nose like a dirty diaper it ain't funky.

No doubt there's good players in Vulfpeck... but just like so much music these days, it sounds too clean, quantized and digitally aligned = bleccchh.

A cheap Carlo Robelli in this video. I have one exactly like it. It's a great sounding bass that I got super cheap.
"Get down with da punkinhead!" Yeah, they were a great band! Psychedelic Zombiez came to mind from that era too.
Man that MSG concert is pretty great. Whether it's funk or not, that show displays some true talent by the whole band, no weak links there. Vulfpeck is one of the bands I use as a counter argument when someone says "there's no good new music coming out". Between Vulf and Tedeschi Trucks Band, I beg to differ.

I think they sound like accomplished musicians having fun, and don’t much care what label does or doesn’t fit on it.
