Funkier than what?

And that makes this funky? Nope... except to people who consider it so.
:D

Where's the hate? Specifically? It is what it is... so everyone's supposed to feel like you? I'll soell it out... just because someone doesn't care for something doesn't mean they hate it. Yet people love to make that leap.

As far as unscripted and spontaneous feel, I hope you're kidding? It's obviously scripted so how could it be spontaneous?
:D

“White guy preppy funk” isn’t a very positive descriptor.

I don’t care what you or any else likes. The nebulous comments pointing put that the band members are white, or how they dress, or tempo (seriously?)... it’s stupid. It’s like people are trying really hard to not like these guys based on everything other than how they sound.

The band members don’t live together and only play together a few times a year outside of live shows. When they record the albums, they all show up and go over the bones of a particular song prior to recording, then they lay down as few takes as possible to keep it loose. What is “scripted” about that?

Missed that. I saw the frat boy comment. Do they act like frat boys in this video?

You not caring really matters.
:D

How about the idea that they just don't like it... and the rest of the package doesn't help? Nah... they're just haters.
:meh:

What part of going over it BEFOREHAND are you missing? Spontaneity is not really planned. That's the opposite of it. If you want to pretend they didn't work parts out (scripting), cool.

What I don't get is why it would bother you in the least if someone doesn't care for something you admire. I couldn't care less if someone dislikes what I like... why should I?

Seriously... why? You can't even seem to imagine why someone might not care for this.

I should mention that even James Brown killed his funkiness as he got older and sped everything up live. Like he was getting paid by the note and had other places to be

I'm guessing he compromised and/or delegated some of his repertoire and arranging responsibilities to remain current and get more down time for himself. He was already relatively old when he invented funk, y'know.
