I was turned on to fretless by Fernando Saunders with Jan Hammer
I’m thinking of putting together a fusion map a bit like the whisky flavour map but for drums, keys, guitar and bass:

The first time I was consciously aware of Fernando was in 1984 with the first Special EFX CD.
As to Jan, same as with Billy Cobham, in 1973 at that same concert (BTW, that concert was the first time I saw Jean Luc Ponty, who was in TMOI, at the time). I have seen him one other time, in the early '80s (don't recall where, exactly).
I like Fernando's work on this album. The first time I heard of him was this release.

The OTB show I saw was my first real introduction to slide harmonics. He was great with Jeff Beck live on the Wired tour too.
John M. Is also a fave of mine right up there with Jeff Beck!

I believe he's the first cat to go ampless, the first to use a laptop with amp/pedal models to play through on stage. Now I believe he just uses a small pedalboard with preamps and pedals.

As you can see there are three tube Pre-amps. In the rig itself you will see the Zen Drive which is what I recorded with recently, but above you will see the Seymour Duncan Twin Tube which I also like very much, and to the right one of my oldest favorites, the Mesa-Boogie V-Twin. I like them all and it really depends on what mood I’m in which one I use.In the middle of those two, you will see a prototype of the new wireless midi for guitar that was invented by Andras Szalay, and is distributed by Fishman Associates.The rig itself is self evident and needs no commentary from me other than it stays the same whichever pre-amp I use. - JM

Dog Cheese was a short lived mid 80's LA based band. The line-up was: Michael Landau - Guitar, Vinnie Colaiuta - Drums, Steve Tavaglione - Keys/Sax, and Larry Klein - Bass. Not too much is known about the band, but there are one or two live bootlegs floating around plus some studio demo material. This video is a bunch of Landau photos with a Dog Cheese track titled "Dog Cheese" from the rare studio demo material.
