Well in general I use MIDI clock to sync different tempo-based effects---delays, modulation, etc. My effects board is an all-purpose board that I use for bass and guitar and has a drum machine, so I also sync them to the drum machine at times. So running MIDI clock throughout my board is important; if the FI doesn't pass it, then that limits where I can put the FI in the chain.

But I think it would also be cool if the FI was able to take MIDI clock itself and use that to set the rate of the envelope opening, etc.

So many MIDI capable devices don't have Thru. Some don't even have a physical Out jack. So MIDI users almost always have to have splitters, mergers, etc. to do what they want. It's annoying. :)

Case in point, I have a Source Audio Soleman as my MIDI controller. It doesn't support Thru. So every time I want to use the FI Editor I have to disconnect MIDI cables to support the Editor. It's annoying enough I don't use the Editor much anymore. I could use a merger to accept MIDI from my controller and computer, merge them, and send them to the FI. But I only have splitters. :)

Hello everybody!
I have been wanting this pedal for so long, and finally pulled the trigger a couple of days ago! :hyper: I am SOOO excited! And I am trying to read though this whole thread before I get the pedal for tips and experiences from you guys... Hopefully it won't too long to get it (I live in Norway).
I did order directly from PandaMidi, and they were very quick to reply when I wrote them. However, they told me they would ship the pedal on wednesday, and after that they did not reply to my emails. I have asked for a tracking number (twice, actually, I forgot that I had already asked. My bad...:oops:). Any suggestions on what I should do? I am feeling way too impatient, I know, but if they have shipped it a tracking number shouldn't take too long to provide.

Anyway, I am truly looking forward to receiving the pedal! Based on your comments and videos I have watched, it should be killer.

Ooh. One more question. I have read some comments about powering the pedal. Some say that and isolated power source is the way to go (voodoo lab 2+ etc), but I only have a Fuel Tank classic on my board. Any experiences with that? I am very sorry if this has been covered before, I have only gotten to thread page 147 or something like that.... :)

I use a voodoo lab to power mine because I was having noise issues with running multiple one spot power supplies for my pedals; I've never used a fuel tank classic but it is an isolated supply and should be sufficient.

I'm not sure; IIRC most of those pedal power distributors will suffice, I was in a unique situation running about 6 one spots on a power strip and the noise was a bit much.

edit...I see, the voodoo isolates every output, I forgot about that and it's probably why I bought one. I would try it with yours and if the noise is an issue then think of upgrading.

Im having trouble connecting to the editor via midi (roland mk2) for firmware update and editing sounds. When I follow the steps for the firmware update I get a FI not present or a communication error has occurred alert..Ive used this midi setup before awhile back witht the FI but not working now..any ideas?

In the midi preferences I only get none and virtual input..

Hi everyone!

I recently got a future impact and was really excited as I created my first patch - but hit a problem right away. I've trawled through the previous posts to find an answer but must admit by the time i got to page 100 i was skimming pretty fast so its possible you've already covered it. Sorry if that's the case! Anyway the thing I'm struggling with is the decay of the filter. It seems like the filter doesn't reset with note-on. Is that right? So if you play a second note before the filter has had time to fully close it will start off the second note already half-open. Does that make sense? I can stop it from happening by setting a really fast decay - but thats not a solution for me, cos I don't want a fast decay on this patch! Is there an option hiding somewhere in the editor to enable envelope reset via note-on?

Correct, that is the way it works.

I wish there was a way to control the retrigger time. Theoretically the Note On/Note Off params should do that but I haven't personally had any success with those. What you need to do is adjust your playing technique to leave a really short gap between the notes. But for really fast 8th note playing it can be challenging to get the retrigger to happen 100% of the time.

Note that the reverse can happen. Say you want a pad-like sound with a long decay (better yet a sustain which is a param we're totally missing right now). If you don't hold the note until the decay is completely done the next note won't retrigger the filter. So even with pads you need to leave a distinct gap between your notes.

Try to enjoy what this box can do and play within its bounds rather than get disappointed in what it can't do. There simply isn't an infallible do-everything-perfectly bass-to-synth box on the market. For that you need to go buy a key synth and learn to use it instead.

Ah I see - well thanks for clearing that up for me gastric =)

I hear what you're saying about using a key synth, and yes, I do sometimes, but for me the really exciting thing about a stringed synth controller is that with a fretless you have complete control over the portamento.

I also recognise the need to leave gaps between notes - that's what i thought the problem was to begin with so ran the bass signal through a heavily attenuating noise gate with super fast attack and release first. The gate shows when the signal is being attenuated so I know there are gaps in my playing.

Do you think it's possible that the option of envelope reset via note-on is something that might be added with an update in the future? That would certainly be top of my list. In fact, just more filter control in general. It's crying out for a sustain parameter. Release would be ideal, but I guess there wouldn't be many tears shed if it didn't feature. But surely a synth pedal of this caliber deserves sustain!

If this were a 'normal' pedal I would agree with you that I should just learn to enjoy it for what it can do, but there's so much potential here it seems a shame to just learn to live with it. This thing is great - it could be astronomical!!

@Andras Szalay did the MIDI command to toggle bypass state regardless of current state (e.g., if CC value is >=63 bypass will switch to effect on, or effect on will switch to off) get implemented or will it be coming soon?

EDIT: another way to think of this would be a CC command that basically performs the same function as the right footswitch.

It is implemented. You find the description on page 13 of the manual.

Hello Andras,

Are you referring to CC 66? As I understand the manual and have used this command, does not do what I am referring to; as written in the manual, this requires that one specifies whether to turn the FI "on" or "off"; I am interested a command that will "flip" the state no matter what state it is in.
